By the end of this lesson, the students will be able to: Id


risks and benefits of cell phone use while working in a team
students. They will be able to take their findings and each
formulate a clear and well-organized journal entry using th
discussions as guidance.

Time

Lesson

5 minutes:

Attendance and housekeeping. (Students are seated at their assigned seats and enga
quiet reading during this time)
Place card numbers for randomized groups on each students desk. Remind student
to interact with this number until given the O.K.

5 minutes:

Introduction: Open up discussion about recent changes to school rules (specifically


phone policies), and link discussion to previous class (Wednesday) reading assessm
activation ie; My Cellphone Ate My Homework.

5 minutes:

Development: Power point presentation on smartboard which explains every studen


in their group. (The roles will be up on the presentation.) Explain the activity and r
students to write down their names and their roles on their note sheet. Give the stud
permission to now get into their groups by finding the three other people with their
number.

10 minutes:

Students work in their groups and provide answers to the question on the Powerpoi
engaging in active discussion. A timer will be placed on the Smartboard to remind
students to respect their time limit.
At the end of the timer, each group will be called on one at a time and will send up
selected messenger to relay the information found in the discussion. This person wi
down the answers on the Smartboard. They will be reminded that they need to spea
loudly, and be clear with their answers. ( Rubric on Smartboard)
During this time, teacher will give out stencils to students so they may fill out the an
provided by the whole class.

15 minutes

At the end of the activity, students return to their assigned seats for a whole class re
the activity and findings.

5 minutes

Conclusion: Teacher shows a video related to the class discussion. At the end of the
students will take out their journal copybook and be assigned a topic for their journ
entry related to the video and discussion.

20 minutes

Students spend the remaining class time working on their journals. Thy will be inst
to complete their journals for homework should they not finish in class.

5 minutes

Teacher assigns homework (to complete journals) and any other tasks which must b
completed before the next class.

Assessment: Students will be assessed on their ability to work in small teams and sta
task, their ability to collectively complete the assignment as a group and in a matur
respectful manner, and the quality and relevance of their answers.
