Show current NASA photos of Earth(Tierra) images
taken from space.
o Make sure Spanish words are on PowerPoint.
Ask students to observe photos and be prepared to
share their 3 best observations.

oceans in their native language.
Provide ALL students with a word bank to ensure
proper spelling.
Give ELLs the choice to work with a peer who
speaks the same language.
** For ELLs**
Attempt to say continents and oceans in Spanish
when checking the maps with students.
** For ELLs**
Give ELLs their own paper copy of the facts of each
continent and ocean.
On the paper copy, include pictures and cognates.
Jeopardy Game
Now, you get a chance to use our interesting facts.
If we can get a total of 30 points, you can earn a little
surprise tomorrow. AS A CLASS Pull sticks.
** For ELLs**
Allow ELLs to work with a partner when picking and
answering Jeopardy questions.
4-Square Writing Activity:
Display 4-square writing activity on document reader.
Give directions.
** For ELLs**
Allow ELLs to write the continents and oceans in
their native language.
Let students draw a picture for the continent they
wish to visit and an interesting fact.

Formative Assessment:
o Check for accuracy on student maps.
o Observe engagement and attention during
interesting facts and Jeopardy game.
Point system on the 4-square writing activity:
o 7 points for continents
o 4 points for oceans
o 3-5 points for interesting facts
o 3-5 points for like to visit
o Extra points possible
o If students get 20 points theyll get a topnotch sticker.
Checking for understanding throughout
** For ELLs**
Check their model map to see if they correctly
identified and labeled the continents and oceans. This
is a content objective and language objective. ELLs
would be allowed to write these names in their native
language.
ELLs four-square writing can be assessed in a similar
way. ELLs would be allowed to complete their
writing in their native language (writing the 7
continents and 4 oceans) and drawing pictures (an
interesting fact they learned, and continent theyd
like to visit).
Technology Integration:
In this lesson, I will plan on using various forms of technology throughout. To introduce
the topic, I will begin with a PowerPoint with slides of the Earth. I will continue through the
PowerPoint as I introduce the continents and students use this slide for support as they complete
their model map. We will continue with the PowerPoint as I introduce interesting facts about
each continent and ocean. After students learn the information from the PowerPoint, I will use
technology to have students participate in a game of Jeopardy!
