RESOURCE DESCRIPTION

Google Docs is like a virtual PC, with limited applications: a word processor, spreadsheet, slide presentation workshop, and form
creator. The big draw of Google Docs is that it allows simultaneous collaboration on the same document across multiple
computers / users. Additionally, changes are tracked and saved, and so people arent required to work simultaneously. Google
Drive can also serve as a storage center, with 15 GB free as part of a Google accountquite a lot, especially for younger students.
In this way, Google Drive can serve as both a drop site and pickup site: uploads and downloads are quite easily navigated through
shared folders. Invitations to view / edit can also be sent, and sharing preferences can be altered at any time.

INTEGRATION IDEA - PRESENTATION

There are myriad ways to use Google Drive in a lesson. Here are a few, random ideas with presentation in mind:

1) Have students collaboratively write a story at home at a designated time, sentence by sentence. After the story is written, the
students can work together, live, the smoothen out and consolidate the voice and make other edits.
2) Students can use Google Drive to upload pictures from a photography project. They can use the presenter tool to create a
slideshow of these pictures.
3) Google Drive has Google Hangout (video chat) integration. Students can video chat with students in another city / country,
engaging in discussion /debate / sharing about their cultures.
4) Students can rotate sharing the responsibility of Lead Notetaker. Their laptop would be hooked up to the projector, and they
would take notes for the class, so they class could focus more on the content and just jot down the notes the head notetaker
wrote in the Google Doc. When they get home, the Google Doc is waiting for them online to review and complie into their own
proper notes.
5) Google Drive can be a great tool in peer editing, since changes are tracked and can be accepted or removed. The teacher can
also project select papers from students, which the class can edit together.
6) For final projects with multiple components, students can submit their work into Google Drive folders, the contents-view of
which, if organized well, can serve as a table of contents per se.

VALUE-ADDED EXPLANATION

Based on the value-added rating scale above, how would you rate the technology integration you described, using the
selected resource?
Explain your rating based on the rubric indicators.

I feel like some of my ideas could be done without something like Google Drive, but others would require it. I think the fact that
resources like Google Drive even exist allows teachers to be more creativeOh! Heres this cool thing! How can I use this?
Which, I feel, is the whole point of these technology integration exercises.

The coolest part about Google Docs, I feel, is the live collaboration options. For students sick at home, even, this could be a great
resource!
