APPENDIX C: WINVIS
NETWORK INSTALLATION
INSTRUCTIONS
The WinVis Network version can be installed for MCE,
MCE MAX , or E MAX . Installation includes Network
Desktop with Server Database, Administration Program,
and Field Tester. The installation should be performed
according to the instructions provided and in the
following order: Network Desktop, Administration
Program, Field Tester.
The installation package contains the following:

WinVis CD software program disk

CD-Key Numbers are located on a label under the CD


inside the back cover of the CD case. Depending on
your version, there will be one key for the Network
Desktop Read/Write, one key for the Network Desktop
Read Only, and one for each Field Tester.

This section applies to the WinVis Network Desktop


version only and needs to be performed only once.
1.

WinVis Setup will add program icons to the


Program Folder selected, as shown in Figure C-2.
The default folder is WinVis.

Insert the CD into the cd-rom drive. If autorun is


enabled the WinVis CD will start automatically.
If autorun is not enabled, run autorun.exe on the CD
by selecting Start, Run, typing x:\setup.exe in the
Open text box (x denotes the cd-rom drive). Click
OK.

Click Next> from the Choose Destination Location


window, shown in Figure C-1.

Click Next> to continue.

5.

The window will display various messages and


progress bars, no action is required on these.

6.

The Setup Complete window, shown in Figure C-3,


opens.

14. Click Continue.
15. If the server database, SrVis3.mdb, has been
installed and you know its location, type the
appropriate path information in the File name text
box on the Find a Server Database window, shown
in Figure C-5.

Select Yes, I want to restart my computer now,


which is the default.

8.

Remove the CD from the disk drive.

9.

Click Finish.

If you do not know its location you may search for


the location from this window and enter it in the
File name text box.

10. During the restart, various settings will be updated.


This may take some time.
11. The computer will display the Windows desktop.
12. Start WinVis by selecting Start, Programs, WinVis,
WinVis.
13. Enter the customer name and desktop CD-Key in
t h e a p p r o p r i a t e te x t b o x e s o f t h e C D - Ke y
Information window, shown in Figure C-4.
The desktop CD-Key is located on the inside back
cover of the CD case and must be copied exactly
as shown with upper and lower case letters and
numbers.

16. Click Open.
17. Setup the Administrator before starting WinVis.

ADMINISTRATION
PROGRAM
It is necessary to setup at least one administrator at this
time so that individual rights may be assigned in the
f u t u r e. I t i s i m p o r t a n t t o m a k e a n o t e o f t h e
administrators password so the program can be
accessed in the future. For more detailed information
see Chapter Three of the Product Support Manual.
1.

Start the Administration Program by clicking on the


A dm in ic on on t he des k t op o r lo cat i n g the
Admin.exe program in Windows Explorer.

2.

You will be informed No users found in database,


setting up for administrator. Click OK.

3.

The New User window, shown in Figure C-6,


appears.

4.

Enter user information in the text boxes, the


required fields are: Login Name, Password, and
Verify Password. Make a note of the Login Name
and Password exactly as they are entered.

5.

Click Add.

To add additional users and assign rights click on


the Admin icon.

8.

Type in the Login Name and Password that you


entered above and click OK.

9.

You will now be able to enter additional users and


to assign rights.

NETWORK FIELD
TESTER
This section applies to the WinVis Network Field Tester
version only and needs to be performed on each Field
Tester.
1.

Insert the CD into the cd-rom drive. If autorun is


enabled the WinVis CD will start automatically.
If autorun is not enabled, run autorun.exe on the CD
by selecting Start, Run, typing x:\autorun.exe in
the Open text box (x denotes the cd-rom drive).
Click OK.

Click Next> on the Choose Destination Location


window, shown in Figure C-7.

Administrative Rights are automatically assigned to


the first person to access the Administration
Program. You will be informed You may now
login as the administrator. Click OK.
