Research Proposal Example

Title of Proposal: How to reduce childhood obesity and lead a healthy lifestyle
Statement of Purpose: The purpose of my proposal is to promote better ways to stay healthy
and back away from childhood obesity.
Introduction and Background: Childhood obesity can cause future deceases. Its a worrying
fact that childhood obesity has doubled in children and quadrupled in adolescents in the past 30
years (Childhood Facts). It is no joke when an unhealthy meal can be bought for 5 dollars,
while a salad could cost you a few more dollars. Obese children like any other kids get bullied
for being overweight and it takes a toll on them on an emotional level. It brings their self-esteem
down. Obese children are more likely to be bullied than their non-obese peers regardless of sex,
race, socioeconomic status (SES), social skills, or academic achievement (Harrison). Although
weight problems run in families, not all children with a family history of obesity will be
overweight said by the article Obesity in Children. We need to include an early healthy eating
habit for young kids. Parents should be involved in the exercise with their kids and reward them
with positive reinforcement so they can grow up being confident. Schools play a majority of
importance for childhood involvement towards obesity. Students sit around school for the
majority of the day, which gives a time gap of learning and informing the students of a healthy
life style.

Significance of Topic: Child obesity leads to diabetes, high blood pressure, heart attacks and
strokes. Leading a healthy lifestyle can prevent majority of the risks there are to childhood
obesity. Reducing childhood obesity is a way to go, in order to prevent future problems and live
a better life.
Approach to research/Descriptions Methods of Research: In order to get the child motivated I
suggest for the parents to take a healthy lifestyle for the child to get motivated. Implement
routines like lets move (By the End). Its a program that works towards kids to stay active for
60 minutes each day. We also need to get a healthier lunch program in schools.
Problems concerning research of topic: I do not have any problems. There is plethora of
information concerning the United States weight problems with different communities.
