Lesson Title: Coloring Shapes
Length of Lesson: 45 minutes
Teacher: Kelly Brinkman
3rd grade

How do
you
know
this
project
is
appropr
iate for
the
grade
level?

This project is for older kids because of the tape and the content
material. Students have to be very careful when pulling off the tape
because it could stick to the paper. Also, the basic understanding and
recognizing of the shapes is a skill that older students have over the
younger ones.

Students will apply their knowledge of the previous lesson to finding

shapes that they have created and writing it down on a worksheet.
Students will examine their works and look for certain subjects in it.
Students will test their fine motor skills by pulling and tearing pieces
of tape for their project.
Students will emphasize the importance of sharing by taking turns
using ripping tape.

overall,
what

?

This is a rich project because it deepens learning for the student. The
beginning is fun and get to color and make shapes, but after the
students will learn to analyze their work. They will assess
themselves and look for the specific questions on the worksheet to
show that they know the material. It is applying the students, but
having fun at the same time!

Is this
project

This project is teacher guided. I know this because I am allowing the

children to put however much tape they want and let them put the

tape wherever they want on the paper. After, I am also allowing

them to choose what kind of art materials they would like to use for
to color between the tape (paint, oil pastels, chalk pastels, markers,
etc.). The only directed part of my project is what the outcome is
supposed to look like.

Explain
how you
know.
Why did
you
choose
this
project?

I chose this project because I think it is a fun way to explore shapes.

It is an interactive activity that the students get to make the shapes
out of tape and paper. Then they get to label and identify what
shapes they personally made. It is so much more interesting than
looking at shapes for 45 minutes on a power point.
