3 Community Challenges
Limited access to safe clean water. The natives of Kaabong especially in rural areas or parish
levels have no access to safe water. They fetch their drinking water in rivers, wells and this can
cause health diseases like typhoid.
Limited access to education facilities, the education services are still low since the poor people
cannot afford it.
One main hospital where all people are referred to incase of serious in case of a serious sickness.
Even the few existing health units do not have nurses and midwives to operate and this has
increased child mortality in the district.
Poorly developed infrastructures like roads to easen movement and trade. The people of the
district do not get access to other districts easily because of poor roads which can even become
worst when it is rainy season.
Last but not least is drought. The area experiences extreme drought which affects the growth of
their crops like maize, sorghum, millet.

General solutions to the challenges

The long distance of the work place was solved by waking up very early for work. The intern
could start having a sleep rest at 8.00pm so that manage the situation. I also entered into an
agreement with the Boda boda man to be coming to our village to pick me at 7.00 which easen
my life.
Early purchasing of stationery so as to reduce the incidences of not having stationery at all. The
intern and the procurement officer bought stationeries like reams of paper, pens, file folders to
ensure availability
Transporting or taking the work to be type and printed to the stationery shops in town which had
stand by generators. We had a collaborative relationship with links stationery services and this is
where we would go and type, print all our needed documents.

Sensitizing the community to grow fast maintain seeds through NAADS, NARO. This was
aimed at solving the problem of drought.
Hiring of a translator to help the intern and Kenyan experts in the business process. This was
done to . That both parties could understand each other respond to each other as required.
