I. Observation 1:
Setting
I. Grade:
1st Grade
I. Students:
8 boys, 12 girls
I. Setting:
1st grade classroom at Lamonte/Annex Elementary School
Multi-Age (6-7 years old) classroom, 20 students, 1 head teacher
I. Pre-Observation:
The purpose of this observation was to study the layout of the classroom and the
arrangement of the furniture and learning tools inside as well. With these observations I
can see an example of what a classroom setting is like and what I may take from it in the
future. I also looked out for any changes that I would make if I were the teacher of that
classroom.

Analysis:
The first grade classroom was pretty big with a lot of shelves and tables. There is a book
case in the back corner right behind the square rug. There is shelf space on the other side
for each student to place their belongings. There are four tables in the middle of the
classroom for all the students to sit at. There are shelves in front of the tables that it used
for activities and crafts. Right by the books there is a large rug that the students use for
morning meetings and to play on the class Ipods. Next to the rug are two students desks
which dont get used except on some occasions. On the opposite side of this is the
teachers desk and chair. There are additionally two shelves in the front which holds
spare paper and pencils. Next to this is the whiteboard and projector which is to view
videos and ebooks. The walls of the classroom are all filled with educational posters.

Reccomendations:

There are a couple things I would improve for this classroom. I would get rid of the two
students desks because I feel like I would have no real use for them. With the extra
space, I would move the students table thats in its own row closer to the back of the
room.

Post-Observation:
It was different to see a setup of a 1st grade classroom. My previous experiences in the
field have been in daycares. This is another age and group that I might want to teach
someday so it definitely showed me different ideas I might want to use or things I would
change. The students warmed up to me right away and were very welcoming.
Throughout the two days I observed the setting I noticed different things, such as new
educational posters to help the students out with addition and subtraction, adding up to
ten and adding doubles. I look forward to going every week and continue to observe
different changes of the classroom.
