Call for Papers IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy

Special Section on
"Reserve and Flexibility for Handling Variability and Uncertainty of Renewable Generation"
Reserve and flexibility requirements are becoming more and more important for the optimal operation and planning of
power systems to address the variability and uncertainty associated with increasing renewable generation. This Special
Section in IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy will cover this promising and dynamic area of research and
development, while focusing on computational, technological and regulatory aspects.
Topics of interest of this Special Section include, but are not limited to:
1. Operation and planning issues associated with large-scale renewable generation
2. Reserve and flexibility requirements of power generation technologies with high share of renewables
3. Optimal scheduling, commitment and dispatch solutions in systems with high penetration of renewables
4. Contribution of energy storage for providing reserve and flexibility with high penetration of renewables
5. Load-following reserves and demand-side flexibility for supporting large-scale renewable generation
This Special Section solicits original work that must not be under consideration for publication in other venues. Two-page
extended abstracts are solicited for the first round of reviews. Authors of selected abstracts will be invited to submit the
full papers in the second round. Authors should refer to the IEEE Transactions on Sustainable Energy author guidelines at
http://www.ieee-pes.org/publications/information-for-authors for information about content and formatting of submissions.
Please submit a PDF version of the abstracts including a cover letter with authors contact information to the Guest
EditorinChief of this Special Section, Prof. Joo P. S. Catalo, via e-mail at: catalao@ubi.pt.
