Technology and Information Literacy Proposal

Spring 2017
Make-Believe Public Libraries is proposing the Technology and Information Literacy Plan
for Spring of 2017 which will work in collaboration with the Cultural and Linguistic Literacy Plan
to bring technology and information literacy to residents of Make-Believe County, Colorado and
members of MBPL. The focus on the program will be inclusivity, community building, and skills
development.
Outcomes

Community members will have a basic understanding of technology, including

email, Microsoft Office, apps, navigating the Internet, and cloud storage.
Community members will have a basic understanding of information literacy,
including locating information resources within the library, online, and locating
accurate and trustworthy sources of information online.
Spanish-speaking community residents will have access to the same technology
and information literacy sources online as English-speaking community
members.

Need
Make-Believe County residents have expressed a need for a comprehensive
technology and information literacy course that will give them the skills they require to be
competitive in the increasingly technology-dependent tourist industry that employs most
residents of the county. Because native Spanish-speakers make up approximately 50% of the
workforce, its crucial that these courses are offered in Spanish and English.

Impact

Community will have a higher employment rate with local tourist-industry

employers.
Community will have lower overall unemployment rate, as well increased percapita income as Make-Believe county residents become more competitive in
local job markets.
Spanish-speakers will have higher employment rates and higher per-capita
income.
