ACTION PLAN

To contribute to the goal of preparing reflective practitioners, student teachers will write an Action Plan at the end of first, second, and third field
experience with input from their cooperating teacher and/or the University supervisor. The Action Plan synthesizes each field experiences
evaluation, links each field experience to the next, establishes goals for improvement, and forms an agenda for discussion between the student
teacher, the cooperating teacher and University supervisor at the beginning of the subsequent field experience. For First Field Experience only
(excluding Physical Education students), the Action Plan will be completed during the co-requisite Professional Seminar course.

I have shown thorough to advanced development in the following Professional Competencies developed
during this field experience:
Professional competency 2: To communicate clearly in the language of instruction, both orally and
in writing using correct grammar, in various contexts related to teaching.
Professional competency 11: To engage in professional development individually and with others.
Professional competency 12: To demonstrate ethical and responsible professional behavior in the
performance of his or her duties.

I would like to improve my skills in the following Professional Competencies developed during this field
experience:
Professional competency 1: To act as a professional inheritor, critic and interpreter of knowledge or culture
when teaching students. Although I feel that I have demonstrated development in professional competency
1, I feel as though there is still much to learn in terms of the interpretation of culture and knowledge and being
critical on both culture and knowledge. I feel that I was not adequately presented with opportunities to allow
me to completely master this particular competency. Professional competency 9: To cooperate with school
staff, parents, partners in the community and students in pursuing the educational objectives of the school.
With respect to this competency I would like to improve my skills regarding communication with partners in
the community and parents. I believe that I have successfully achieved advanced development in terms of
cooperating with school staff. However, I was not presented with an opportunity to further communicate with
members of the community and parents. As a result, I believe that this competency could be developed
much further.

I will make use of the following strategies for improvement:


In order to further develop competency one I would like to increase my exposure to culture and
expand my understanding of criticality and culture. I wish to accomplish this by increasing my
exposure to different culture in the school. Perhaps by becoming more actively involved and
immersed in school culture by taking part in extracurricular activities. In order to further develop
and improve upon competency nine, in further seminars I will volunteer in after school programs
such as STEP or after school sports in order to increase my changes of exposure to individuals of
the community as well as parents. By doing so, I hope to be presented with numerous
opportunities to communicate with members of the community and parents alike.
