INTRODUCTION TO DIGITAL TECHNOLOGY

COURSE DESCRIPTION
Introduction to Digital Technology is the foundational
course for the Web and Digital Design Pathway. The
course provides an overview of business and technology
skills required. Knowledge of business principles, the
impact of financial decisions, and technology
proficiencies demanded by business combine to
establish the elements of this course.
Emphasis is placed on developing proficient
fundamental computer skills required for all career
pathways. Students will learn essentials for working in a
business environment, managing a business, and
owning a business. The intention of this course is to
prepare students to be successful both personally and
professionally in an information-based society. Students
will not only understand the concepts, but apply their
knowledge to situations and defend their
actions/decisions/choices through the knowledge and
skills acquired in this course. Employability skills are
integrated into activities and projects.
Various forms of technologies, including videos, will be
used to expose students to the emerging technologies
impacting
the
business
world.
Professional
communication skills and practices, problem-solving,
ethical and legal issues, and the impact of effective
presentation skills are taught in this course as a
foundational knowledge to prepare students to be
college and career ready. At the conclusion of the
pathway, students will take the CIW Site Development
Associate exam for the End of Pathway Assessment.

IT-IDT-6 Explore and explain the basic components of
computer networks.
IT-IDT-7 Use computational thinking procedures to
analyze and solve problems.
IT-IDT-8 Create and organize webpages through the
use of a variety of web programming design tools.
IT-IDT-9 Design, develop, test and implement
programs using visual programming.
IT-IDT-10 Describe, analyze, develop and follow
policies for managing ethical and legal issues in the
business world and in a technology-based society.
IT-IDT-11 Explore how related student organizations
are integral parts of career and technology education
courses through leadership development, school and
community service projects, entrepreneurship
development, and competitive events.
FBLA
Future Business Leaders of America is a
co-curricular student organization that
plays an integral part in the components
of the Digital Technology course
standards.
FBLA
activities
are
incorporated throughout this course. Students are
strongly urged to join FBLA to benefit from the wealth
of opportunities the organization has to offer.
Members have the opportunity to:

Participate in Competition and club activities
Attend Conferences

GRADING POLICIES
Course grading will be based upon points
earned by observations, production
assignments, written assignments,
presentations, tests, quizzes, and projects
directly related to the course standards.
(Daily Grades 40% + Projects & Tests 60%).
Yearly grade=Semester Average (80%) +
Final Exam (20%).

BARTOW COUNTY GRADING SCALE:


90-100 =A
80-89 = B
70-79 = C
BELOW 70 = F

Turn off cell phone and put away. You may not
charge your phone in class. (No warnings; I will take
up the phone the first time.)
No headphones or music devices unless required
for the assignment.
Use supplies wisely to conserve paper and toner.
Do not bring food, drink, gum, or electronic devices
into the classroom (see student handbook).

Late Assignments: Students will not receive full credit.

Academic Honesty:
Cheating, lying, stealing,
plagiarism, or variations of these offenses are serious
breaches of the Honor Code. For violations, a grade of
zero will be given for the assignment. Students will also
be subject to administrative discipline

CONSEQUENCES IF YOU CHOOSE


TO BREAK THE RULES
Verbal Warning, Conference with teacher, Telephone
conference with parent, or Discipline Referral.
Serious issues will be dealt with immediately through
the disciplinary referral system as described in the
student handbook.

MAKE-UP WORK
Students will have three days after return from an
excused absence to make up any assignments missed.
It is the students responsibility to make an
appointment with the teacher for make-up work.
