Reflections:
I implemented:
Technology- I used the smart board to incorporate songs and a pumpkin life cycle
game.
Reading Strategies- I read aloud to the whole class.

Strengths of lesson: The use of Technology.
Challenges of lesson: The transitioning from one activity to the next.
What occurred during the lesson design or delivery and student response to instruction?
Started off with pumpkin life cycle song. Then read aloud the book and transitioned into
smart board game. The students loved all three of those parts. They did however get wiggly
for question and response time.

the entire lesson. From Seed to Pumpkin was the book that I read that incorporated science
into the literature.
Resources: School or Community
Data Analysis:
Changes in instruction based on data:

Formal assessments Life cycle of a Pumpkin Sequencing
Students had to achieve three out of the four correct in order to receive an 80% and above.
The group as a whole achieved 80% or above on the assessment.

More repetition of the life cycle throughout the unit.

Unit Questions:

Why are the objectives appropriate?

They are appropriate because they encompasses the formative assessment and portray the
information the learner is learning.
Why are the lessons sequenced in this manner?
The lessons are sequenced in this way to build upon each other. I started my unit of with a KW-L chart to figure out what my kindergartners know and want to know. From there I
introduced how a pumpkin grows and building on that by introducing the parts of a pumpkin.
Why were these instructional strategies/activities selected?
After researching I came to the conclusion that these were the best tools to use to inspire high
level thinking.
How do the instructional strategies/activities address the learning objectives for this unit?
They addresses the learning objectives in the fact that the students were engaged in the
learning process as we completed each lesson and activity.
How will a variety of levels of thinking skills be addressed (Blooms)? Give specific examples
of use:
The majority of the activities are lower level Blooms Taxonomy. The students must be able to
recall information for the chart.
Explain the reading strategies that will be used throughout the unit. Give specific examples.
(Remember that reading a text is not a reading strategy).
I used reading strategies of stopping during different parts to ask questions about illustrations,
colors, seasons, and words. From Seed to Pumpkin book I stop and pointed to a picture of a
seed, vine, sprout, and asked them what they were. In addition to that, I asked them what
comes after the sprout. Furthermore, I also point to the green pumpkin and asked what the
beginning sound of green is and the sign language for green.
What resources will be needed for this unit? (Include school and community resources)
From the school I used a smartboard and worksheets. The community resource I had was a
parent of one of my students come in and cut open two pumpkins and talk about the parts of a
pumpkin.
How will technology be integrated within the unit? Explain both teacher use and student use:
Technology was integrated through smart board interaction tools such as games, songs,
writing, and camera usage. Student use was the life cycle game and songs. Teacher use was
the writing and camera usage.
How does the unit demonstrate integration of content across and within content fields?
It is a language arts unit that integrated science and math. I read a different pumpkin book
every day but each pumpkin book talked about growth of a pumpkin, parts of a pumpkin, or
focused on shapes and amount of pumpkins.
How does the unit demonstrate both teacher-centered and student-centered instructional
strategies?
Student centered instructional strategies are demonstrated in K-W-L chart time and
smartboard game time. Teacher centered time would be during reading and science
experiment of sink or float pumpkin.
