Introduction
Installation
If the I5S indicator has already
been installed, you may skip most
of this chapter. You may however
need to refer back to it if you change
scale bases or the power supply,
or need to access the menu lockout switch.
This chapter contains the following information:
Introduction and description.
Unpacking the indicator.
Scale base connections.
Power connections.
Turning the I5S indicator ON.
Introduction
This manual covers installation, operation and troubleshooting for the Ohaus I5S
Indicator Standard. To ensure proper operation of the indicator, please read this
manual completely.
Description
The Ohaus I5S Indicator Standard is a rugged, reliable electronic weight indicator
that is made in the U.S.A. and is designed to be easy to operate. It can be easily
connected to Ohaus or other brands of Scale Bases. The I5S Indicator has been
NTEP tested and found to comply with Class III and IIIL requirements of NIST HB44
for 1:5000 performance in pounds, kilograms, ounces or grams. The I5S Indicator
can be wall, bench or tower mounted. The I5S Indicator can drive up to four 350
ohm load cells and provides capacity selections up to 10,000 lbs/kgs with a
maximum resolution of 1:20,000. The indicator is constructed of extruded
aluminum with removable plastic end caps and is extremely durable. The I5S
operates from six Alkaline "C" batteries and can also be powered externally using
the AC adapter supplied. A six and a half digit LCD display which is 0.6 inches/
1.5 centimeters in height provides easy visibility when working at distances from
the indicator. Two switches mounted on the front panel enable simple set up of
configuration and feature parameters. A menu lock-out switch can be set to lock
out various functions of the indicator to prevent settings from being changed.
Accessories include: an RS232 Interface Kit, a Wall Mount Accessory kit, and a
Tower Mounting Accessory Kit.
Unpacking
Unpack the I5S indicator at the installation site and verify that the following items
were included in the carton:
an AC Adapter
a capacity card
a warranty card
instruction manual
2 security screws
2 washers
It is recommended to save the carton and packing material for storing, transporting
the indicator or returning it for service.
Assembly
Assembly consists of making the necessary electrical connections, and applying
power to the unit.

Setup and
Calibration
The Setup mode enables you to
program and calibrate the I5S.
When you first install the I5S, you
must use the Setup mode to enter
information about the scale base
being used and to perform calibration. You may also use it to program options that will customize
the I5S for your specific weighing
requirements.
This Chapter explains how to:
Access and use the Setup
mode.
Calibrate the indicator.
Prevent unauthorized setup
changes using the menu lockout switch.
Seal the indicator for Legal for
Trade installations.
11
Make sure the indicator is OFF and the menu protection lockout switch on the
PC board is in the OFF position.
2.
For first time setup, you must go through all of the submenus to configure the
indicator. After the indicator is in use, you can make changes to individual settings
and bypass others.
The following rules apply when using the setup mode:

Graduation Size
This parameter specifies the increments
in which the display will count.
If Legal For Trade is set to ON, resolution (Capacity Graduations) is limited
to a maximum of 5000 divisions. The
graduation selections available are limited by the capacity entered under Full
Scale Capacity to prevent a combination
which exceeds 5,000 divisions.
If the graduation size selected does not
meet the resolution requirement, the
Setup menu cannot be exited. An error
message is displayed and you are automatically returned to the GRAD parameter. A valid graduation value must be
selected.

Averaging Level
Averaging level compensates for vibration or excessive air currents on the
scale base. During operation, the indicator continually takes weight readings
from the load cell. Successive readings
are then digitally processed to achieve a
stabilized display. Using this feature,
you specify how much processing you
need.
HI and LO settings are available.

displayed weight may change (in graduations) while the stability indicator remains ON. When the displayed weight
changes beyond the allowable range,

be selected.
