Strengths of the lesson

One thing that I felt really worked well was the phases of my lesson. I started with a
review to refresh the students on types of words (verb/adjective/noun), moved on to a group
discussion type format with the brainstorm, then finally broke off into the individual work. I
think this was good because it allowed there to be a time where students could work
however they were more comfortable, whether it be in a group or individually. Another
strong element of my lesson was the closing, where I had the students suggest other things
that could be compared, and have them compare an element or two for me. I feel that this
was effective because it allowed the students a larger degree of personal creativity, while
also encouraging a higher degree of understanding through forcing them to create their own
situations.

Revisions that could be considered

The major revision that was suggested to me is one I really agree with. It was, at lack
of better wording, the persistence of instruction. Essentially, when my lesson assignment
was as complex in composition as it was, it would have been beneficial to have the
instructions and composition requirements of the poem written down on the sheet, so the
students would have been constantly reminded of which line of the poem needed what types
of words. This information was provided, but only verbally. I had hoped that by building the
poem alongside the students, having written down the instructions would have been less
important, however in hindsight, that was not the case.

Overall evaluation of the lesson and next steps

Overall, I felt very good about my lesson. I felt that I was prepared and I had utilized
my time well. I had presented a much more in-depth version of this lesson in my practicum
two weeks ago, and that was very beneficial in refining my presentation for the microteach.
Teaching to fellow Ed students was actually much more stressful than teaching to my grade
4 class. I think this was because the students in this situation were much more aware of
teaching qualities and attributes, and therefore more suited to be critical. This lesson has
provided me with a lot of insight that I was already able to use in a new lesson for my grade

4s on Wednesday, as well as base knowledge on the lesson plan that will really help me in
the program moving forward.
