2 Creation
There are two accounts of creation in Genesis
1st Account: Genesis 1:1-2:3

2nd Account: Genesis 2:4 3:23

God created the world in 6 days

and rested on the 7th day.

Concentrates on the development

of human beings.

Genesis 1:1 2:3

God said God commands the universe into existence
Day 1
Heavens, earth, light and
dark
Day 4
Sun, moon and stars

Day 2
Water and sky

Day 3
Land and plant life

Day 5
Fish and birds

Day 6
Land animals and humans

God formed man from the

dust and breathed into his
nostrils the breath of life.

God put the man in the

Garden of Eden to take care
of it.

God said not to eat the fruit

from the tree of knowledge
of good and evil.

God banishes them from the

Garden of Eden for
disobeying him.

The serpent tempted the

God created woman from
woman and she ate the fruit. the mans rib.
She also gave some to the
man.

Genesis 2:4 3:23

Is this really what happened?

Yes: Literal View / Creationism

No: Metaphorical view:

The Bible is the sacred word of God and

should be taken as literally as possible.
The world started in exactly the way the
Bible says.
Young Earth Creationists have used the
Bible to count back and believe the world
was made in six days approx.. 10,000
years ago.

Many Christians believe

Genesis is a metaphor.
They think it is not literally
true.
They think the story helps
people to understand that God
is the creator of all things.

What is the role of the Word and the Spirit?

The Word
Q: Who is the Word?

A: The Word = Jesus = The Son

Christians believe God the Son was with God the Father at the start, acting in
creation. This is because the beginning of Johns Gospel it says:
o In the beginning was the Word John 1:1
o Through him all things were made. John 1:3

The Spirit
Christians believe the Spirit was involved in creation because:
1. In Genesis it says that during the act of creation the Spirit of God was
hovering over the waters (Genesis 1:2)
2. The Spirit (in Hebrew: breath) of God guards creation.

Relationship between God

and humans

Relationship between humans and rest

of creation

God created mankind in his

own image Genesis 1:27.
Therefore humans are special.

God gave humans responsibility to look after

the world as his stewards (in Genesis 1:26)

God breathed life into Adam

Genesis 2, this shows they are
important and close to God.

God blessed humans and said Be fruitful

and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it.
(Genesis 1:28) This means he wants them to
control the earth. God also told humankind
to Rule over all the other creatures.

God gave Adam and Eve free

will, which they used to disobey
him. This broke the relationship
of mutual love and trust
between God and humanity.

Stewardship means taking care of

something so it can be passed onto future
generations.

God punished them by sending

them out of the Garden of Eden.

This means humans should treat animals

and land kindly and share things fairly.
Christians believe they will be judged by God
on their actions.
