3 The Incarnation
What is the incarnation?
Christians believe that in about 5BC the Son of God came to
earth to live as the man Jesus Christ.
The purpose of the incarnation was to enable human
beings to have a relationship with God.

How is the incarnation shown in Bible?

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. John 1:14
The Bible tells us Jesus was born to a virgin:
The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him
Immanuel. Matthew 1:23 (Immanuel means God with us)
It also teaches that the incarnation is a mystery, and beyond full human
understanding (1 Timothy 3:16).

Why is the incarnation important for Christians today?

Christians believe that Jesus can show them what God is like.
They believe he came into the world to restore the relationship between
God and humanity.
Christians celebrate Jesus birth at Christmas because they believe the
incarnation shows how much God loves the world.
They believe that because Jesus was human, he could understand what it is
to be human and their problems and identify with suffering.
