5 Salvation
For God so loved the world that he sent his only Son so that those
who believe in him might not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:16

Why is salvation needed?

1. When Adam and Eve were created it was in a perfect loving
relationship with God.
2. Adam and Eve used their free will to disobey God (sin) and eat the
fruit.
3. This sin damaged the loving relationship between humanity and
God.
4. All humans are now sinful.
5. The only way to restore the relationship between God and humanity is for the sin
to be forgiven.
6. The only way sin can be forgiven is through the sacrifice of
Jesus.
7. Those who believe in Jesus can now have a relationship with
God forever.

Some key Christian concepts:

Repentance

Law
People sin by
breaking Gods law
e.g. the Ten
Commandments

It is not enough to just

follow the law. To be
forgiven, you must repent
(be sorry) and change.

Grace
You must also accept that
you need Jesus grace, his
undeserved love. Without
this you wont be saved.

In the Book of Acts it suggests that the only way to be

saved is through repenting and accepting Jesus:

Salvation is found in no one else. (Acts 4:12)

Atonement
At-one-ment
Because Jesus died to save humanity from sin, the relationship between God and
humanity was restored. They were brought back together again. They are at one.

Why is this significant for Christians?

Christians believe that Jesus death means they can have eternal life with
God.
They believe they have a duty to follow Jesus example if they want to be
saved: I have set you an example that you should do as I have

done for you John 13:15.

This means that Christians must be kind, loving and caring towards each
other as they believe this is the only way to be saved from the power and
consequences of sin.
Christians regularly repent of any wrong-doing and believe that, because of
Jesus sacrifice, God will forgive them.
