Three paragraph summary of one article.

Learning to Write and Writing to Learn: Insights from Teacher Candidates

Learning to write is something that not a lot of students and educators particularly like to do.
And therefor often the work suffers because of it. This article really pinpoints what the faults
are the causes the lack of interest and quality, and where the lack derives from. They focus on

the k12 era of the students life, as well as the candidate and educators career and how they
all see writing skills as a quality trait to have, but still some seem to be higher/lower quality
than others.
They express a lot of concern regarding the quality and competence of the candidates to be
able to teach writing because the quality of their own skills often suffer. They even go on to
say that nearly half of all first year college students were required to take remedial writing
possibly because some forms of writing arent viewed as being that significant in the long
term of things. A lot of teacher candidates writing skills derive from the way they were taught
to write and seem to stay in that mindset, instead of adapting to new and future standards. So
a survey was conducted to 112 participants to see how the candidates viewed writing and
writing processes. They would ask things like would you agree/disagree that writing clearly
and correctly was important and to give suggestions on how you might improve this
concern. The results of the survey expressed that more of the candidates expressed a value of
writing more towards their students, then to themselves.
The results of the survey showed that more of the educators and candidates need to be taught
how to write and how to teach writing and how to integrate it into the system that they teach.
The teachers need to see the value in teaching the writing skills and want to learn more so
they can teach their own students. The candidates need to integrate writing into all forms of
the curriculum so the students will be more rounded and appreciate the writing skills they
will acquire. The teaching candidate and educators need to be fully educated on writing. This
in turn will empower the students to strengthen their own writing skills.
