Topic: Singapore and Koreans English ability

Hook: Both countries have taught English as a mandatory subject however, abilities are
different.
Introduction: Singapore Korea both of countries located in Asia and have English education
as a mandatory. However, Singaporean English is master level, and Korean English ability is
lower than Singaporean. What makes differences between Singaporean and Koreans English
ability?
Body1: Cultural differences which affect to peoples English ability.

Citizen of Singapore consists of Chinese, Malaysian, Indonesian, and others. Since

they have many races in one country, they need to speak common language which is
English.

On the other hand, Korea has only one race. Moreover, Koreans dont need to learn
English as a first language because they have their own language, Korean. There
would be no problem if Korean is monolingual living in Korea.

Body2: Teaching method differences in School.

Singapore, teachers speaks English in class and also teach all subjects in English.
Students only allowed speak in English.

Singaporean students should pass the primary school leaving exam called, PSLE,
which proves English ability. If Singaporean student fail in PSLE, he or she need to
choose to go primary school for one more year, or go to technical school.

Korea teachers running the all kinds of class in Korean, including English.

Body3: Well-balanced education of English

Singaporean students required to speaking, writing, listening, reading in English for

graduate primary school, middle school, and high school.

Korean English education mostly focuses on Listening and Reading. They dont need
to speak or writing for entering university.

Conclusion: These are the reasons for differences between Korean and Singaporeans
English abilities. If Korea stick to their education system, its hard to improve Korean

peoples ability.
