PART A: Describe how students could create and publish an original movie, audio file, podcast, or vodcast in order to achieve
required learning standards. Challenge: For an A provide an idea where the learning activity reaches a LoTi level 4a or
above. To do this you will have to design a project where students engage in higher-order thinking and publish their work to an
audience that will use or care about the results. Broad feedback for their work is also a great way to boost interest and
performance.

Luther King, Jr.
Brief Description of Learning Experience:

The students just completed a unit on major events from 1950-1975. As a summative assessment, students
will create an original video on a person or event of their choice from the unit. Students must incorporate
images, music and for a challenge, implement a video from another source. These videos will range from 1-3
minutes and include a title slide and credits. The students will be given one week to complete this project,
during the history portion of class each day. The teacher will assess each video to see if they align with the
standard, meet the length requirement, and include appropriate images and music. The teacher will provide an
example video for students to view and also provide feedback to the students about their product.


Student Engagement/Higher-Order Thinking: What LoTi level would this lesson be and Why?

This would be a LoTi level 5 because students are taking the role of professionals, having a wide range of
options to chose from to create their own products, and sharing them with others to see.


Importance of technology: Why is using a multimedia authoring tools critical to the project? Could the project be
completed without this technology? What would be lost without using it? What other types of technology, if any, are
going to be used in the learning experience?
The video element of multimedia increases the LoTi greatly within the classroom. It also allows for higher levels of thinking with
analyzing, applying, evaluating and creating. The students would not be able to complete this assignment without the use of
technology. In this lesson, students get to share their ideas and personalize a video themselves with freedom to include whatever
they want, within the standard and requirements. Students could also create a project like this with other video making tools, or
the basic productivity tool of a narrated PowerPoint.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:
The teacher must only allow the students to visit sites that are previously viewed and confirmed by him or her to abide by
Internet safety rules. Students should obtain their resources (images, music, videos) from safe sources approved by the
teacher. Students must also cite every source.
