LESSON TITLE: Counting by 10s with zero the Hero and Little Count

Grade Level(s): K, 1

Subject: Math Lesson Length: 1 hour 25 minutes

Prepared by: Hollianne, Alexis, Kirmalieys, Kailin

Overview: The overall purpose of the lesson is to learn how to sequence numerals 10-100 by tens. The
students will skip count orally by 10's to 100.
Standards: MAFS.K.CC.1.1 :Count to 100 by ones and by tens.
Learning Objective: The students will be able to count to 100 by 10s at the end of the lesson. The students
will also learn how to work together efficiently.
Materials/Resources Needed: [What materials and resources do you need for this lesson?]
SUPPLIES NEEDED:
Appropriate Textbook
Workbook handout
Smartboard or projector to display the powerpoint
Youtube/ internet connection
Pre-cut colorful circles for each child & glue sticks to create caterpillars
A number line would also be helpful, but not required more of a visual aid
Pencil
Craft Paper
Introduction: As the teacher I will introduce the lesson by reviewing the lesson from the day before, by
allowing the students to discuss the previous days work they will begin to warm up and able to be more
easily transitioned into this lesson. I will also have the students open to the pertinent workbook page so that
they are ready to begin the lesson. We will also discuss why numbers and patterns are important. I will play
this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQSdKlNvrmw to link the lesson to a fun memory.
Lesson Activities: [Itemize the details of your lesson be complete and detailed.]
(5 Minutes)- Introduction
(3 Minutes)- Youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQSdKlNvrmw
(30 Minutes)- grouping the counting blocks and practicing with the blocks on the smartboard in front of the
class.
(30 minutes) The powerpoint presentation

20Counting%20by%2010%20.pptx?web=1
(10 Minutes)- Student independently works on questions while I walk around answering questions
(5 Minutes)-Go over all answers, assign homework that is related to workbook insert.
(2 Minutes)-Clean up assignment.
Strategies ESE/ESOL:?] I will support students who have special needs by rewarding positive behavior and
do behavioral assessments. These will ensure that I know where the students pace are at all times. ESE/ESOL
students would benefit with a auditor, visual, kinesthetic aid and so having flash cards which can be folded to
hide the zero part of the number and then lined up to show the patterns 1-10 teaching them the sequence.
By seeing and being able to rearrange the flash card along with speaking/singing they are able to have a
better understanding..
Strategies Integrating Technologies: I have chosen to use a computer program called Dream Box
Learning. This website is great for elementary students to enhance their learning in math.
Evaluation/Critique of Educational Software/Web-based Resource: The reason I have chosen Dream Box
Learning was because it is easy to manage. This enhances the lesson and makes it effective by personalizing
instruction from intervention. This website strategically increases the learning velocity of any student.
Summary : [How will you summarize your lesson?]

The lesson would be summarized by showing the students the patterns that help us count by 10s to 100s. By
finding the pattern the students will learn to figure out the new number in future lessons. I would close out
the lesson by playing the YouTube video one last time for fun.
Assessment Type: The students will participate in counting by 10s as a group without any visual aid.
In addition, the students will also be asset individually by using activities for example the caterpillar
counting by 10s to find the missing number in order.
Educational Theorist: Students have better understanding when auditory, visual, kinesthetic styles of
learning styles are used when teaching new lessons.
By using an animated video students will feel it is fun and entertain, hence keeping their attention.
The song in the YouTube video also make it easier to count and retain the information because it provides a
visual to the music.
Practicing counting blocks will link what the students see in the video to learn the material.
By working independently, I can gauge if the student comprehended the information and I can answer any
questions while walking around to room for the students that may feel too shy to ask questions in class.
When going over the answers the students have an opportunity to confirm what they learn and of course
ask more questions.
