The Stat Multiple Choice exam also includes questions based on quantitative reasoning.

Quantitative
reasoning questions include questions based on mathematical and scientific calculations. These questions
require some basic mathematical and scientific knowledge to help students solve these questions. Since
the students are not allowed to carry calculators with them, they need to practice a lot to be able be swift
and quick in manual calculations. Fluency in manual calculations will enable the students to complete the
exam in the given time and score optimum marks in the special tertiary admission test.
One example of the kind of quantitative reasoning questions included in stat exam is provided here. The
questions require minor calculations and mathematical knowledge and are based on the given data. They
require the students to understand the relationship between the data provided and accordingly choose
the correct answers. A careful study and the analysis of data will help to identify the relationship of
different elements of data in the given information.
The following table contains the details of length and breadth of the range of cylinders, a Company has in
its product line. A variety of cylinders are available with the company available in varying length and
breadth. The questions are based on the measurement charts given below. The students are required to
pay attention to the change in measurements of cylinders to be able to identify the correct answer
choices.
Measurement Chart of Cylinders
Length

5cm

Breadth

2cm

Length

6.5 cm

Breadth

5 cm

Question No. 1. With an increase in the length of the cylinder by 0.5 cm the breadth of the cylinder
increases by:
1.

1 cm

2.

0.5 cm

3.

0.25 cm

4.

0.5 cm

Question No. 2. The breadth of a given cylinder can be calculated using:

A.

Breadth= (Length+2)/4

B.

Breadth = (Length-4)*2

C.

Breadth = (Length*2) + 2

D.

Breadth= Length 3

Question No. 3. An increase of 0.25 cm in the length of cylinder has the following effect on the
difference between the length and breadth of the cylinder:
1.

Increases by 0.25 cm

2.

Reduces by .225 cm

3.

Reduces by 0.5 cm

4.

Reduces by 0.25 cm

Question No. 4. An increase in the breadth of cylinder by 0.5 cm has the following effect on the
difference in the area of two cylinders:
1.

Decreases by 0.25 cm

2.

Increases by 0.125 cm

3.

Increases by 0.25 cm

4.

Deceases by 0.125 cm

Question No. 5. The relationship between the difference of area of the two cylinders and the difference
between its length and breadth is:

1.

Inversely proportional to each other

2.

Congruent to each other

3.

Directly proportional to each other

4.

Incompatible with each other

The above questions seem to be easily attempted by the students if they study the given data attentively
and with keen interest. They can roughly work out the relationships to find the right answers to them.
The number game appears to be complicated but a little practice and competency can make it simple and
uncomplicated for the students.
