PROCEDURE
Introduction (5 min):
Hook/Attention Grabber: How do we count by 5s? You guys know all about patterns,
do you see one here? We count by 5s every day when we do the daily routine.
Assessment of Prior Knowledge: See if they remember counting by 5s.
Expectations for Learning & Behaviour: Dont touch your manipulatives until your told.
Eyes on me when Im speaking.
Advance Organizer/Agenda: Have manipulatives grouped and ready to go. Booklets
out and ready to be handed out by the helpers.

Transition to Body: What things do we use to count by 5s by? Ex tally marks in out
daily routine.
Body (30 min):
Key Questions: How do we count by 5s? What patterns do you see? (L.O. 1, 2 & 3).
Learning Activity #1: Smart Board Activity
Students will practice counting by 5s.
Notice the pattern, ending in a 5 or 0.

Assessments/Differentiation: Give all students the opportunity to come up and


practice on the board. This will help with engagement.
Key Questions: Can you count by 5s using the pennies? Explain what pennies are.
(L.O. 1, 2 & 3).
Learning Activity #2: Workbooks
Pages 52-54.
Go over each page as need be. All the pages are the same, they should get an
idea of what they are supposed to do.
Assessment/Differentiation: Float around the room and help those who may struggle.
Some students struggle with counting by 1s, so make sure to check up on them
regularly.
Key Questions: None.
Learning Activity #3: Math Games
Assessment/Differentiation: None
Sponge Activity: None.
Closure (5 min):
Consolidation/Assessment of Learning: Praise. Review the pattern that occurs when
counting by 5s.
Transition to Next Lesson: Get ready for lunch. Clean up manipulatives and get ready
to wash hands.
