University Hall, Room 435 800 N. State College Boulevard Fullerton, Ca 92831 Dear Dr. Bruce: As the semester has progressed, you have taught us ways to become more technical writers through lecture, assigned readings, and group work. We have utilized these learned skills to complete group assignments, as well as this portfolio. While learning how to become more technical writers, we have mastered 6 SLOs (student learning objectives). To demonstrate my competence in the SLOs I have included and revised my Proposal, as well as a section from my group charter. Rhetorical Focus (SLO 1) is met by demonstrating my ability to formally write a proposal to iFixit. In the proposal letter to iFixit I was able to express a need for a trouble repair guide for our laptop being repaired, as no previous repair guides existed. I remained persuasive in my writing (SLO 3), while ensuring I showed confidence in our teams ability to create a guide that was easy for users to understand and follow. In writing the first draft, I showed my ability to organize, focus, and communicate (SLO 4), as well as work collaboratively with my team to create our first draft (SLO 6). Before submitting our proposal to iFixit, we had our first draft reviewed by a group of peers. By reviewing their recommendations on the peer review guides we were able to make changes to the proposal to ensure it sounded to the point, as well as formatted in a way to ensure reading it was easy. Having an understanding of academic language, I ensured to use clear and specific writing, and avoided filler words, demonstrating academic language and design without cultural or gender bias (SLO 5). I have also included a section of my group charter to show my competence in ethical citation and research (SLO 2). In the resolving conflicts section of our charter, we give citations to sources used in regards to how we would resolve conflict effectively as a team. This shows our ability to cite information from other sources and give credit to the original authors. I feel that after finishing this class, my skills as a technical writer have improved greatly, and this portfolio demonstrates that. The skills learned in the class will prepare me for work in the future, as well as make me a more well-rounded writer all together. By demonstrating the SLOs above, I now have the skills necessary to write technically and sound to any audience I may be addressing. Thank you for considering my cover letter. I hope you find this sufficient to show fulfillment of the SLOs Sincerely,
