DALLAS PROTEST SHOOTINGS

Abstract

The Dallas protest was supposed to be peaceful, many people thought it was going to be a
time for a change for people to protest peacefully, and to show what they feel towards
police. Everything was going on well when suddenly someone started shooting police out
of nowhere, the person who started the horrific event was identified as Xavier Johnson. He
turned a peaceful protest to a horrific event. His intentions where not the correct ones, his
goal was to kill white police officers, and he did, he killed 5 officers. He not only affected
the officers, but the rest of the people who were during the event became victims of the
shooting. Within those people, children were present and many of their parents became
affected trying to protect them After hours of negotiating with the sniper to stop the
shootings, officers were ordered to kill him.

DALLAS PROTEST SHOOTINGS

Dallas Tx, has become a target city, especially involving protest and police brutality.
The residents of this city became targets during a normal ordinary day. No one would have
expected this to happen especially to get to the point of becoming the victims.
A peaceful Black Lives Matter protest was happening in downtown Dallas when the
tragedy occurred. On that Thursday night, many people remember the worst, they became
the victims of a shooting. The shooting occurred while the peaceful protest was going. The
shooter identified as Micah Xavier Johnson, was a military veteran, he was 25 years old
and was from Mesquite, Texas, became the enemy of the scene. The attacker wanted to take
revenge against white people in general, but especially in white officers. He had an
objective in mind, and that was too take revenge on those people, for the deaths of the black
men who got killed by officers. He decided to attack on that day because he knew, there
would be officers, securing the area where the protest was held. Johnson not only ended up
injuring officers, but other people too and the worst thing was that within those people there
were also children. The children became affected , and many of their parents died trying to
shield and protect them from the shooting. The people that were affected by this situation
said, they never thought something so bad would happen. Their objective was to go out and
spread the message of peace and unity.
Police searched his home on the following day and found many clues that led
Johnson to be identified as the shooter. In his home, many things were found including
ammunition, guns, rifles, and a personal journal. In his journal he had written out the whole
plan, he wrote every step he was going to take to accomplish his objective. Officers also
searched through his Facebook page and found out that he was following a page, called the
Blank Panther Party, which is party that is against whites and Jews. Johnson was influenced

by all these things and that led him to become the enemy of the scene. With all these clues
officers thought that Johnson was acting with a partner or some other people, but they later
found out that Johnson acted alone and he was the only sniper, what they also found out
about Johnson, was that he knew his plan, he had no criminal record and didn't have any
ties with any terrors groups. Johnson was prepared for what he was going to do, he wanted
to kill people and he did, but all this became a tragedy were many people were affected and
hurt.
The protest became a disaster when Johnson began shooting and threatening the
people, and the officers. He was inside a building and from there he would shoot the
officers, he would climb each stair in each level of the building to get a good angle and then
shoot. In the scene, not only the 5 officers were killed, also many of the officers who were
trying to stop Johnson became injured, and the people who were in the protest also many
became affected, while trying to protect their children from becoming injured. Later on
officers confronted Johnson, and with hours of gun battle and trying to negotiate with him,
and Johnson threatening the people, officers were ordered to kill Johnson, they sent out a
robot with bombs to kill him. That was the only alternative that the officers had, Johnson
only left them with that choice, officers decided to kill him because Johnson only kept
making threats, and he was taking everything as a joke, after he had killed the 7 officers
and injured all the people that were in the crowd.
The Dallas protest, is going to be remembered as a horrific act, no one would ever
think that the person who created the horrific event, would be a U.S army veteran. Thats
why officers thought in the beginning that this was a terrorist attack, because of the recent

events that have occurred in the U.S, were many people have been affected, and also
because the U.S is a target country for terrorist.
This protest was supposed to be peaceful, but we don't know how other people that
don't participate in these type of events react or how are they affected by the unjust
situations, were the police end up shooting the person who didn't even do anything. For
example, all the people that are in the protest were mad at police, for the deaths of persons
that were killed unjustly, but they were also willing to make it peaceful to try and make a
change. The families of the men who became victims of police brutality, are still affected
because many of those families lost a dad, a brother, it can be understood that they are still
mad at the police who caused the death of each person, and they want justice, but they want
peaceful justice and they are willing to make a change, but in this situation with Johnson he
wanted to take justice in his own hands, because he was mad at police, he had anger in
himself, and it was not the right thing to do to take justice in his own hands, but maybe it
was not only because of the police brutality, he had other intentions in mind he was just
mad at white people overall, he referred to white people as criminals. He had so much
anger within himself that he didn't think of the other people that were there, who were also
children. He was affected by all these things, maybe he was influenced by others. For
example, as it was mentioned earlier he was following pages that were against white
people. He was also influenced by that, and maybe in his past many other things had
happened to him that affected him, and that was his idea to get rid of people, and just take
justice in his own hands. Because as it was mentioned earlier he was angry and he was
probably of all the injustices that were happening.

DALLAS PROTEST SHOOTINGS

Overall, people should really reflect on what happened in this event, and the causes
of why this is happening. There is many reasons that can explain why this situation
occurred. Some of those situations, is police brutality, which include the deaths of the
persons who were victims by police brutality. People need to unite and have peace within
themselves to be able to transmit that peace and love to others, but everyone has different
opinions and not everyone agrees with each other, but to make a change everyone needs to
unite and agree in something that will benefit everyone. Like it was mentioned earlier,
everyone has different opinions, but also many people think there should be justice made,
and police should get some kind of punishment, so they can really analyze what they are
doing. They should also get some knowledge of how they are treating the situation. Thats
why many people are mad at police, because of there reactions toward treating a situation.
For example, in Philando Castiles case, according to his wife, that broadcasted everything
that happened said, that she is still trying to understand why her husband was shot, because
he didn't do anything wrong, he was just reaching out for his wallet to show his license, and
that's when the officer shot him. By this example many people are still questioning
themselves and asking themselves why these things are happening. Is it because of racism?
or just because police feel threatened?
There are many arguments out there but, the most important is that everyone
wherever they go they need to feel safe with police, because thats why they are there to
keep us safe, but if these situations keep happening no one is going to feel safe or protected.
