COURSEDESCRIPTION
Thecourseismeanttoprovideanoverviewofthehistoryofpsychologyinthelast500yearsalthoughtheuseof
thewordinsingularismisleading,astherearemany
Psychologies,andwithineachnumerousvariations,whichdefeatsanyattemptatconvenientorganization.Inthis
course,followingtheintroductorylectures(1&2),wewillexplorethoseformsofpsychologythataroseinclinical
and/orappliedsettingstosolveproblems(lectures321)andendwiththestudyofexperimentalpsychology,which
islargelya20thcenturyphenomenon.Thestoriesofindividualsandtheirtheorieswillbeplacedintheculturaland
philosophicalcontextinwhichtheylivedandformulatedtheirideas.

GOALS
Toprovidestudentswithabroadoverviewofpsychologyasithasdevelopedinrecenttimes.
Topresentpsychologyasalivingandlivelydisciplinethatevolvedinresponsetoitsculturalenvironment.
Tocriticallyexaminethesuccessesandfailuresofthevariouspsychologiesdiscussed.
