Is a Group task necessary in the University?

Every semester, we settle our grades by lots. I picked a good and a bad each
this semester and thank you for English composition 2 professor who didnt arrange
any group task in the class. In the university, the hall of academy and passion, we do
gamble our score because of Group task. If we met uncooperative classmate at the
group for task, there would be two choices. One is ruin the score of the class.
Another is doing all things in that group task alone. Every semester, to pick the
diligent and good classmate is the core of the group task. In my case in this
semester, I chose second option and stayed up all through the night last month. So,
what I would like to say is that Is a Group task necessary in the University? In my
opinion, it is totally of no use in University.
Some people insist that learning some skills such as conversation and
compromise can be one of advantages by group task. These skills maybe make a
student say something fluently and logically. But, as mentioned on the introduction
paragraph, University is a place of learning, the hall of studying what students want,
not breeding school for politician. At the beginning of the group task, one or two read
other crews countenance, and they picked the effective way to hitchhike others hard
work. Some severe cases, the politicians interrupt other crews hard work and entrap
them. Additionally, someone who has more responsibility always suffer more loss
than other crews. Usually, a professor appoints group leader in every groups who
are fourth or third grade. The professor thinks that they order or supervise their

group; actually, they do more works than any other crews and even do some works
that should be done by other crews. The servant leadership, a kind of leadership that
helps and advices other crews for teamwork, can make good effect when the other
crews do their works actively (Geenleaf). The leaders already busy to get a job to
prepare their future. It is overburden to them to live campus life (chatman).
Also, group task supporters, especially professors, argue that group task
makes students concentrate the lecture actively (Benbasat). It can be sense in case
of the quality of his/her lecture. If the professors lecture were interesting, and
instructive, all students concentrate by themselves naturally. It depends on capacity
of the teacher. The students are aged over 20. They are adults. They fairly well know
how to study and how to control their curriculum. If a University students couldnt
steer his major or subject, it could be better to quit the study in the University. The
professors concern about students concentration is not their work. What they have
to do is studying and teaching. One more, Sometimes, the group task is estimated
by presentation. The group has to explain some part of lecture which was professors
duty. Objectively, we didnt pay the expensive tuitions to see the other students
presentation skills, to listen other students stammering explanation. It is waste of
time, money, and opportunity to study hard. What we can earn is just professors
coziness.
Academically, collective intelligence could be made by group task, that is,
group task can create more imaginative thinking than single student task can create
(levy). It is the last one to set forth some counterarguments. Often, the group makes
more stupid thinking than one person. The Kennedy and his secretaries made foolish
event, Cuba Missile crisis (Cambridge core). Just ordinary single person would never

did like them. It shows the other point of collective intelligence. It is not always true
that together make better choice. Likewise, the tragedy of commons could occur in
the group (Hardin). Group task usually can take score every crew evenly, so some
crews didnt participate in the task actively. It makes the other people to work twice
more.
Conclusively, it is useless to estimate students by group task in the
University. Many university students have some experiences about misfortune of
Group task. These are definitely unfair and make us rage every time. If a professor
wants to arrange group task in his class at all costs, there should be designed
detailed scoring system and grouping for all students.
