OPEN ENDED QUESTION

KNS 3621 : CIVIL ENGINEERING LABORATORY 6
Answer the questions below and hand them in to Ms Nor Azalina Rosli before 12 noon
27/05/13 (Monday). Please take note that this is an individual work.
Question 1
Samples from a wastewater treatment plants are collected from 3 different points :- influent
(raw), sedimentation tank (settled), and final effluent. The samples are tested for BOD &
COD tests, and the data from the experiments are shown in tables below.
Calculate the BOD and COD values for the 3 samples. Predict (obviously with clear
justification) which samples is taken from influent (raw), sedimentation tank (settled), and
final effluent, respectively. Finally, do a compliance check whether the wastewater treatment
plant meet the standards or not.
