EXECUTIVE SUMMARY
Bank Alfalah is a private bank providing financial services to the customers
under the charge and ownership of Abu-Dhabi group. Bank is engaged in
corporate and retail banking. Currently bank continues to strengthen its
presence in market by the help of expansion plan. Bank has 321 branches
which include 60 Islamic Banking branches with seven foreign branches out
of which five branches are in Bangladesh and two in Afghanistan and one
offshore branch in Bahrain.
The Bank Alfalah is growing very impressively and making profits which
growing higher day by day with the slogan of The Caring Bank making the
wishes of people come true through the philosophy of transferring concepts
to reality. Bank is providing its financial services to customers with the help
of its qualified human work force of 9,551, who is very energetic and humble
towards customers which is beneficial for the bank.
This report includes the Introduction and history of the Bank Alfalah, the
recruitment and selection strategies, policies which they have implemented
at the bank. This report is based upon the human resource management and
its practices at Bank ALFALAH limited
The report is divided into three main outcomes. In the first outcome, we
analyzed the objectives and the process of human resource planning and
evaluated the systematic approach to recruitment. In the second outcome,
we evaluated the selection process for Bank ALFALAH. And In the last

outcome, we have discussed SWOT analysis of the bank, which is followed by


a brief conclusion of the Bank ALFALAH limited.

INTRODUCTION TO BANK ALFALAH:

Bank Alfalah Limited was incorporated as a public limited company on


June 21, 1992 under the Companies Ordinance 1984.

Its banking operations commenced from November 1, 1997.

The Bank is owned and operated by the Abu Dhabi Group and is the sixth
largest bank in Pakistan.

The Bank does business through a network of over 500 branches in more
than 170 cities in Pakistan.

The Bank has an international presence in Afghanistan, Bangladesh,


Bahrain and a representative office in the UAE.

The Bank provides financial solutions to consumers, corporations,


institutions and governments through a broad spectrum of products and
services, including corporate and investment banking, consumer banking
and credit, commercial, SME, finance, Islamic and asset financing.

RECRUITMENT PROCESS IN ALFALAH BANK:


Recruitment is the formal process of selection of employees. It is the
systematic process of searching of candidates for employment and
encourages them to apply for jobs in the organization. The overall aim of
recruitment is to obtain the quantity and quality of employees.
Bank Alfalah recruits employees for the fulfillment of their need of expansion

1. NEED ASSESSMENT
Firstly the Bank Alfalahs management looks at their current business needs
and their business goals so that they may know what level of staff support is
needed. Then under careful consideration the management looks into the
skills and competencies required to meet business needs after which a
detailed human resource plan is designed. There is no fixed quota of number
of employees to be recruited, it depends on business needs and the strategic
(organizational) and tactical (branch level) requirements.

2. HUMAN RESOURCE PLANNING


HR Department is responsible for an effective HR planning regarding demand
and supply of employees and forecasting for these practices. The objectives
of human resource planning for
Bank Alfalah is same like the other organizations i-e to forecast and plan for
the acquisition, retention, improvement and the utilization of HR. At Bank

Planning involves a decision making in three areas of combined activities:

In the first step the Bank Alfalah make a list of requirements to the
specified job keeping in view its needs, objectives, additional human
resource and skills required, then bank is able to hire the services of right

kind of person to that job.


In the second step the Bank Alfalah make plans for motivation of their
employees by giving them different sort of targets and incentives on their

their organization.
In the 3rd step, employee goals and the organizational goals are
interlinked.

4. JOB ANALYSIS OF BANK ALFALAH:

Job analysis at BANK Alfalah results in two documents:

Job description: (detail information of the competent tasks and

duties)
Job specification: (detail statement of professional qualification &
skills required for job)

Job analysis is very important task because on the basis of that many
administrative and managerial decisions are made, such as recruitment,
selection and training etc. At Bank Alfalah the job analysis is conducted when
the organization wants to open a new branch, setting up new technology or
new services etc.
The job analysis is done directly by the head office situated at Karachi and
the head office uses internal as well as external source of recruitment to fill
the vacant job accordingly.

5. PREPARATION AND PUBLICATION OF INFORMATION
Bank Alfalah advertises in the media (newspaper, magazine, website etc.) for
which their criteria is:
Candidate must be a citizen of Pakistan.
They must be qualified in the relevant field having graduate or postgraduate degree.
Following sources are used to invite applications from suitable candidates for
internal and external recruitment:

Bank Alfalah advertises the vacancies in popular newspapers, which can
either be in English or Urdu language according to the need of job and
situation.
Website:
Bank Alfalah has also adopted online recruitment process like ROZEE.PK and
other online job offering websites, where they advertise the vacancies. Bank
ALFALAH also has its own website, where they advertise the vacancies.

After the recruitment, the selection of most reliable and capable applicants is
made at Bank Alfalah under the supervision of HR personals. The selection
process typically consists of following steps:
1. SCREENING
The first step in the selection process at Bank Alfalah involves screening of
candidates.
To screen for candidates, there is a need to complete three steps:
1. Review resumes and cover letters
2. Conduct a video or phone interview
3. Identify top candidates
Then irrelevant applications are screened out and relevant applicants are
called for written test.
2. EMPLOYMENT TESTS
After the preliminary interview the candidates are called for employment
tests for which they have to first fill the Application form so that the
organization can have the specific information needed. The test pattern is of
GMAT format in which they judge the person job behavior and skills. The test
is taken in order to test the aptitude of candidates.

3. INTERVIEWS

FIRST INTERVIEW

Then the selected candidates are called for their first Interview that involves
a face-to-face meeting with the HR manager. In the first interview the
candidates are asked about their basic information and verifications and
investigation about their previous job performance, education etc. are made.

SECOND INTERVIEW

After the first interview the carefully chosen candidates are called for the
second interview that is the panel interview. Unlike the first interview the
second interview is more formal and the interviews check candidates
confidence level by asking different questions. Further the screening is made
from the group discussion which is examined by 10 HR executives of Bank
Alfalah. In this way they judge their personality traits and leadership
qualities.

4. FINAL SELECTION
Then the final interview is conducted by the president of Bank Alfalah at the
regional office. Individuals who perform successfully in preceding steps are
now considered eligible to receive the employment offer.
The job is then offered to deserving candidates and the job benefits and
salary packages are negotiated. The candidates are then sent for training to
the head quarter, which is based at Karachi where they undergo intensive
training in various fields. After completion of training they are sent to
different branches.

5. INDUCTION
Induction programs at Bank Alfalah are structured to ensure that each
employee receives the information they require when they start work. They
have a documented induction process that includes induction manuals and
copies of relevant policies and procedures.

Bank Alfalah is one of the fastest growing banks in Pakistan. Following is the

RECOMMENDATIONS
At our visit at Bank Alfalah:

We observed that the employees were overburdened because they


have to stay at work till late at night. Their efficiency in this way is
affected. Hiring more employees can reduce their work load.
The banks management should give more incentives and pay scale of
officers should be revised & improved.
System and operations should be more defined and organized so that
employees performance would be more consistent.
IT infrastructure should be improved so that the recruitment and
selection process could also be less time consuming.

CONCLUSION
An organization can never be better without its human resource. So they
have to get and hire the best to be the best because the performance of the
employees reflects the companys image. Better the quality of the
employees better the performance of the company. The quality of the
workforce largely depends upon the Recruitment & Selection process of any
organization. This report has highlighted the recruitment & selection process
that is used by HR management of Bank Alfalah.
