Founded in 1897

Birla Century is a division of Century Textiles and Industries Limited, which was incorporated in Mumbai, India,
in 1897. A state-of-the-art, vertically integrated plant, Birla Century was set up in the year 2009 at Jhagadia,
Bharuch, Gujarat, with an investment of US$ 180 million (Rs850 crore).

Spread over an area of 100 acres, Birla Century uses the best modern machinery to produce a wide range of
premium textiles from suiting and shirting to fine fabrics and household linen. Innovative finishes such as
wrinkle-free, easy-care, and anti-bacterial are imparted to fabrics through world-class automated processing
with eco-friendly and non-toxic dyes and chemicals.

The BK Birla group could earn about Rs 125 crore annually through lease of its office buildings in
central Mumbai. On Thursday, the company announced its foray into the real estate sector
through the new company Birla Estates. In newspaper advertisements, the company said it would
lease out two of its commercial properties Birla Centurion and Birla Aurora in Worli
Century Textiles and Industries, once a star among Indian investors, is looking to demerge its
textile business. It may merge it with Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail (ABFRL) to bring the entire
textile and fashion business of the Aditya Birla Group under one roof
Century Textiles Industries is likely to issue close to one crore warrants to its largest shareholders
led by Kumar Mangalam Birla in the next financial year starting April 1, 2017

Textile Industry
Indias textiles sector is one of the oldest industries in Indian economy dating back several centuries. Even
today, textiles sector is one of the largest contributors to Indias exports with approximately 11 per cent of
total exports. The Indian textiles industry, currently estimated at around US$ 108 billion, is expected to
reach US$ 223 billion by 2021. The industry is the second largest employer after agriculture, providing
employment to over 45 million people directly and 60 million people indirectly. The Indian Textile Industry
contributes approximately 5 per cent to Indias Gross Domestic Product (GDP), and 14 per cent to overall
Index of Industrial Production (IIP).
The Indian textile industry has the potential to reach US$ 500 billion in size according to a study by Wazir
Advisors and PCI Xylenes & Polyester. The growth implies domestic sales to rise to US$ 315 billion from
currently US$ 68 billion. At the same time, exports are implied to increase to US$ 185 billion from
approximately US$ 41 billion currently. The textile industry employs about 40 million workers and 60 million
indirectly.
