PART 1
1 INTRODUCTION
Indo-Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) of Central Scientific Instruments Organisation (CSIO) was
established in the year 1963 in collaboration with the Swiss Foundation for Technical
Assistance, Switzerland. It was formally inaugurated on 18th December 1963 by the first Prime
Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
ISTC, today, is a Training Centre of repute in the field of Technical Training. The Indian
Industry has been impressed with the performance of the ISTC trainees and even today after 47
years of its inception, the Centre has maintained an excellent quality of training. The basic aim
of this Training Centre is to produce young technical personnel with solid practical background
to fill the gap between the engineer/designer and the skilled worker.
The Training Centre is excellently equipped with the latest machines. These are regularly
upgraded. During the training, emphasis is laid on discipline and motivation. Integrated training
in skills supported by relevant theory is the strength of the centre. Emphasis is laid on
developing skills. All the trainees work on machines individually and are trained to execute
industrial jobs and face real life work environment. Stress is laid on the development of attitudes
such as punctuality, cleanliness, housekeeping, obedience, pride in labour, commitment, etc.
There exists a perfect spirit of teamwork among trainees and the staff. Behaviour and discipline
of the trainees are closely monitored and recorded. A rigid system of performance evaluation
has been devised to maintain the quality of training.
The passing out trainees of ISTC are well versed in fabrication of precision components and
their assembly, CNC Technology, Jig Boring, EDM, Manufacture of Injection and Compression
Moulds, Press Tools, Jigs & Fixtures, Computer Applications, Industrial Automation, etc.
depending upon their area of specialisation. They are capable of performing multifarious
functions, so they are in great demand by the Industry and get handsome remuneration.
2 EMPLOYMENT
The ISTC passouts are very well accepted in the industry. Some of the reputed organisations
employing ISTC passouts are: Rockwel Automation, Moserbaer, Hero Honda, Siemens, HCL,
Wipro, Havell’s India Ltd, GE Motors India Ltd, Makfin Tools India Pvt Ltd, International
Electron Devices Ltd, Trident Group of Companies, Continental Device India Ltd, Raunaq
Automotive Components Ltd, Purewal & Associates Ltd, Goetze (India) Ltd, Quazar
Technologies Pvt Ltd, Motherson Sumi Systems Ltd, Prasha Technologies Ltd, Schlumberger
Asia Services Ltd, Samtel Colors Lab Ltd etc. They are presently holding high positions. ISTC
passouts are also very successful abroad. A number of our graduates are running their own
ventures successfully.

3 COURSES OF TRAINING
The Training Centre conducts three AICTE approved courses viz.
(1) 3 -Year Diploma in Instrument Technology
(2) 4- Year Advanced Diploma in Die & Mould Making
(3) 4- Year Advanced Diploma in Mechatronics & Industrial Automation
The latter two consist of two years of common training with the trainees of Instrument
Technology course plus two years of advanced specialization. The medium of instruction is
English.
3.2 ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN DIE AND MOULD MAKING: This course started in 1977 with
the collaboration of Government of Switzerland is of four years (eight semesters) duration. The
