SHIP POWER GENERATOR

Generator is a system that generates electric power by the input power generator
mechanic so here serves to convert mechanical energy into electricity. When working
principle generator rotor is rotated, the winding wire will cut the magnetic forces on the
magnetic poles, causing the voltage difference, the basis of this arises the electric current, the
current through the cable / wire into two ends connected by a sliding ring. In these rings shift
the brushes, as connecting terminals out.
Generator ship is a ship of useful tools to meet the electricity needs on board. In
determining the capacity of the generator vessel that will be used to serve the electricity
needs on the vessel then load analysis is made to determine the amount of power needed and
variations of usage for operating conditions such maneuvers, sail, anchor or lean as well as
several other conditions. It is intended to determine the minimum and maximum power is
needed.

In planning the electrical system aboard to consider the capacity of generators and
other electrical equipment, the magnitude of maximum and minimum requirements of
equipment. The maximum demand is the greatest power requirements mean that occur at
short time intervals during the working period of the equipment, and vice versa. Mean an
average power requirement during the period of employment generator vessel can be
determined by dividing the energy consumed by the number of hours that period. For
maximum requirements used as accuan in determining the capacity of the generator vessel.
And for the minimum requirements used as accuan to determine the configuration of the
electric plan is appropriate and to determine when the generator vessel operate
Backup power calculation must be included to cover the needs of ship electric power
during peak loads that occur in a short period, for example when used for mengasut
motorcycle - a big motor. If viewed ICC regulations require it to power out of the generator
vessel at least required for service at sea should be 15% higher than the ship power
requirements specified in the power balance. It also should be noted the growth factor burden
for the future. To determine the capacity of the generator on board used a table where the
balance of power across the electrical equipment or power capacity indicated in the table.

So with the power balance of the table can be seen power is required for each each
operating condition of the vessel. In determining the balance of electric BKI Vol. IV (Chapter
I, D.I) suggests that:
1. All equipment power consumption is still necessary to maintain normal service to be
reckoned with full working power.
2. Expenses of all equipment connected to the backup should be stated. In terms of real
power consumption equipment that only works when a similar equip
3. The total input power must be determined, of the entire power consumption is only
temporarily inserted, multiplied by a factor of similarity of time together (common
simultancity factor) and added to the total input power of the power consumption of
all equipment connected anyway.Total input power as determined in accordance 1 and
3
4. As well as the power required for cooling installations that may exist, should be used
as a basis for granting the size of the generator installation vessel.
