Shana Penn is executive director of the


Taube Foundation for Jewish Life and
Culture and a visiting scholar at the
Graduate Theological Unions Center
for Jewish Studies. Her award-winning
book, Solidaritys Secret: The Women
Who Defeated Communism in Poland
(University of Michigan Press, 2005)
examined womens leadership role in
defeating Polands communist regime.
Presently, Penn is completing a book on
the revitalization of Jewish culture in
Poland after the fall of Communism.

This event is co-hosted by the Richard S. Dinner Center for Jewish Studies at the
Graduate Theological Union, and made possible in part with funding from the
Jewish Federation of the East Bay.
