Parents expectations have high standards for their children
Family activities at home effected their achievement at school
Teachers should include families on all decisions
This articles examines 2 studies on how parental involvement effects childrens
achievements in school. The first study is how families expectations for
kindergarten has changed but their home practices have not. In 2007, it was
reported parents have a higher expectation of levels of skills for their 3 and 4
years old but yet there was no change in their family activities to support those
skills. The second study examines how family activities effect childrens
development. The studies suggest we give regular updates to families and
continue to encourage families to engage in learning activities at home.
This article relates to my study because it discusses possible ways to help
parents be more involved in their childs classroom.

This article answers many important questions that parents and educators might
have about family involvement in their childrens school. Parents who had
greater involvement in their childs preschool years have more satisfaction with
their academics. After interviewing a number of families about positive
experiences in early childhood, they have found that parents read more to their
children, are more likely to visit their childs classroom and will have stronger
relationships with other parents. Parents and families involvement is also
correlated to how welcome they feel in the school.

This article explains the importance of what happens when schools, families
and the community work together. Working together and getting involved
means different things to different people and we need to conscience of that.
There are 6 principles related to Joyce Epsteins research; parenting,
communicating, volunteering, learning at home, decision making and
collaborating with the community. There are also many setbacks that hinder
families from getting involved including their own schedules, they might feel
uncomfortable, lack the resources they need and they dont feel the information
is understandable. The NEA is a strong believer in placing more emphasis on
the roles of families, schools and communities.

This article focuses on research studies done on the benefits of family

involvement. They found that when parents were involved their child greatly

This article focuses on the importance of parental involvement for ELL learners
who are hindered by their language barriers. Connecting with ELL students
families is very important and educators should learn more about their
traditions and education. The family should receive important information in
their native language so they can more effectively support their children.
Educators should be doing whatever it takes to get them to participate in the
classroom. The family should be encouraged to volunteer in the classroom and
teachers should be thinking of alternative ways to encourage involvement.

This article captured what early childhood educators should learn about ELL
learners. There is a growing population of children that English is not there first
language. Children that are linguistically and culturally diverse might feel
isolated in the classroom. There are four specific developmentally acquistions

native language in the classroom with other children. The families will also be
learning English with their children and teachers should develop ways of
communicating with them.
