Strategies for working on project #5:

Your goal is to transform your selected artists piece altering, in
some fashion: subject, context and color, to make it your own.
(Context refers to how your subject(s) and environment interact)
This project will be made 50% in Photoshop and 50% in Illustrator.
How (the methodology) and what techniques/tools are used, is up to you.
In class we will discuss how to integrate both programs into your workflow.
This process will likely consist of working on or editing different assets
(subject, foreground, background etc.) and visual attributes in one
program then adding details or certain effects in another.
Based on the artwork you have seen over the duration of the semester,
choose a visual
artist and one piece by that artist that you will work from (take
inspiration from).
YOU ARE NOT JUST COPYING A PIECE. YOU ARE CREATING YOUR
OWN CONTENT.

You are to select one and only one piece to work from. You
MUST stick
with your selection.

pieces that
tell stories or do they focus more on simply evoking a mood? You should be
able to
find discussions or interviews with this artist when doing your research that
help
you determine how this artist works/creates their art. The artist creates an
art that symbolizes the time or the seasons.
DO NOT simply choose a piece that you think will be easiest. You have from
now until the
final exam date to complete this project. Your project must reflect a large
investment of
time and effort. This project will likely take upwards of 1214 hours.

After you have selected your piece to work from, determine how you
relate to your selected piece. What is it about the content that
speaks to you? Does your selected work tell a story? Does it elicit a
specific emotional response? (Does it make you happy, sad, feel calm,
etc.)
How do you relate to your piece? (Consider why you chose it)
(EXPLAIN):
The Moon and Stars is common type of art with beautiful women painted on
a canvas. However, the pattern on the background compliments the women in the
canvas. It made the canvas symmetrical and thats the reason why it made me
feel calm.

From your selected piece, list three visual elements that represent
your artists style. Explain each element in detail. (If you need more
space use the lines on the back page). Consider how you answered this
question for your surrealistic piece.
1) Symmetrical: The background has a pattern that made the
painting satisfying to look at.
2) Brightness: There are areas where it is the brightness which
makes the viewer focus their attention on that part.
3) Realistic: The woman in the paintings are not unreachable
beauty.

Next, find out how this specific piece is able to relate that
feeling or story to you. Is it through the subject, the environment,
color choice, proximity of subjects to each other and their
environment (context), etc.? The subject of the piece relates to the art
works I personally prefer. The subject of how the time changes
throughout the night is unbelievable amazing.
Explain how you think your piece conveys its story or emotion
to you: Consider artistic style (how images are represented).

120In your opinion, what is the story of your selected piece?
Golden
The story of the moon is how beautiful the moon looks like when it
is at its peak.

Similar to project #3, you will take your selected piece and plug
in your own content. You will substitute your own subject, your own
environment and so on.
YOUR SELECTED WORK SERVES AS ONLY AS A VISUAL GUIDE.
Before you begin gathering your imagery/sketching/etc., decide what the
intent of your piece is. What is it you hope to communicate in your
own piece? (This is the same as question #1 on your project critique
form).
My piece is to show the same type of story as Alphonse Mucha s The moon
but it portrays a beautiful eastern woman rather than a European Woman.
