1 Introduction
This document describes installation and use of the LMT Software, which allows you to carry out a
proper commissioning of the ION-B system.
System requirements: Windows XP (SP1 or SP2), Me, 2000, 98, 95.
Minimum screen resolution 800 x 600. Standard RS-232 interface.
Press NEXT to start the LMT Software installation. The following window will appear, thus showing
the installation progress through the status-bar.
Once the installation process has finished, the following window appears:
MN028-03
As an alternative, you can launch the LMT application either from the Program Menu or from the
Users Start Menu. In this latter case, the LMT application appears under an Andrew ION-B
submenu, which can include any other ION-B application installed in your system (e.g. Brite Tool).

The following steps need to be carried out in order to ensure the system works correctly:
1
Insert all the boards into the TPRN sub-rack and set different address into each TPRN (refer
to ION-B User manual for further information)
Wait until the TFLN red leds stop blinking (Remote Unit discovery finished);
Connect the PC or laptop to the RS232 port of the TPRN sub-rack, using the RS232 cable
provided with the sub-rack. If your system has multiple TPRNs, please remember to connect
different TPRNs through
RS485 port, using the
LAN cable provided with
each TPRN subrack.

Be sure to choose the proper COM port of the PC or Laptop you are connected with.
Then press the SAVE&EXIT button in order to save the changes.
Warning! Before doing any operation be sure to have completed sub-rack cabling and set different
addresses for all the sub-racks to avoid conflicts. Please refer to ION-B User Manual for
further information.
MN028-03
The status bar automatically notifies when the scanning process is complete, thus displaying the
number of the TPRN subracks which have been detected.
Warning:

STEP 2: Once step 1 has been completed, please proceed with step 2.
Open the list of the TPRN subracks which have been detected, and choose the one you
want to commission. You will be provided with a list of discovered addresses, so as to
choose the TPRN address you want to commission (i.e. masking unused slots and
disabling unused receivers on TFLN Master Optical Trx).
Press START in order to discover all the modules inside the sub-rack. This procedure
has to be repeated for each TPRN subrack which has been detected.
The full information about the TPRN subrack to be scanned will be saved in the configuration file
BUS_MAP.CFG. The status bar will inform you as soon as this operation has been completed.

STEP 3:
Once step 2 has been completed, please proceed to step 3, which allows you to
mask the unused slots of the TPRN subrack and the unused Rx ports of the TFLN
Master optical Trx.
The Polling address window shows the TPRN subrack address which has been chosen
in step 2. Press MASK SLOT so as to mask the unused TPRN slots.
A message in the lower part of the STEP 3 window will notify you as soon as the TPRN
slots have been fully masked. Press MASK TFA so as to Mask the unused Trx ports.
12
UNMASK SLOT and UMMASK TFA allow you to restore the initial conditions.
STEP 4: By clicking on VIEW TPRN , a full description of the modules discovered inside the
TPRN subrack will be displayed.
Warning:
remember to repeat step 2 and 3 for all the TPRN addresses discovered in step 1.
Once you completed the commissioning steps, you can close the window and access the Advanced
Configuration menu so as to have more detailed information on the system.

14
The following page will be displayed. Select DISCOVERY from the toolbar
MN028-03
15
This page allows you to run a full scan (Discovery) of the TPRN subrack, thus including inserted
boards and connected Remote Units.
If you dont know the address of the TPRN to scan, press BUS SCANNING : a new window appears,
allowing you to choose the address range where TPRN subracks will be searched. After choosing
the range of addresses to search, press START. The toolbar below displays the TPRN address
detection.
16
Choose the TPRN address you want to scan, and press START DISCOVERY from the toolbar, so as
to let the discovery process start.
Once the discovery process has finished, a full description of all the system boards and the
discovered remote units is shown. Press START POLLING to come back to the TPRN page.

STATUS, where the status of relays, power supply and bus is displayed;
TPR SLOTS, where all the active boards housed in the sub-rack are listed
To mask/unmask the unused TPRN slots, press CONFIGURATION , tick the slots you want to mask
and press OK . (see the window below)
In our example, lets suppose we want to extract the Local Units from slots 10 and 11, and mask
these slots. Slots 3, 6, 9 and 12 are already empty, and they have been automatically masked during
the system commissioning (Quick Configuration, step 3).
We therefore will tick the options general alarm slot 10 and general alarm slot 11, so as to disable
the alarm detection from revealing the empty slots 10 and 11, as shown in the pictures below.
18
If masking operations have been properly performed, the TPR SLOTS section will show the yellow
notice MASK next to each empty slot on the subrack.

Please refer to next paragraphs to learn how you can enter the TFLN pages, thus having access to
some more detailed information about Master Optical Trxs (TFLNs) and Remote Units.
Please note that the previous Subrack Configuration page allows you to change the alarm status and
the not-alarm status of the TPRN subrack auxiliary inputs (see ION-B User Manual for further
details), as well as to mask any TPRN alarm: it is strongly advisable, nevertheless, that this
operations are performed by a skilled user.

STATUS, where the status of optical links towards the remote units is described;
GENERIC TFAN REMOTE BOARD/DEVICE, where all the Remote Units connected to the
TFLN are listed.
Select the left and right arrows on the screen to move upwards or downwards within each of these
sections.
22
To mask/unmask the unused TFLN ports, press DIGITAL COMMANDS , tick the Rx port you want to
disable.
Please note the Reboot command as well, on the top of the page, which allows you to reboot the
TPRN subrack.
By using the arrows in the Digital Commands section, you can control further options, such as:
TFA compatibility: you need to enable this option if your system includes some Standard
Britecell Remote Units. This way, any possible alarm due to communication mismatch from
older Britecell equipment will be avoided
DL laser shut down: it allows you to switch ON or OFF the laser of Master Optical Trx.
TFAxx discovery: you need to switch this option to Running if you want to run new a TFLN
discovery process, thus scanning the connected remote units without switching the subrack
OFF. Once this scanning has succeded, the flag will automatically switch back to
Completed
Automatic discovery mask: it enables or disables TFLNs automatic masking the Remote
Units at each system reboot. Once the system Commissioning has been performed, it is
strongly suggested to Disable this option.

This page allows you to mask any other TFAx alarm: nevertheless, it is strongly suggested these
options are handled by a skilled user. To go back to the TFLN page, press BACK .

3.3.5 Utility
From the Advanced Configuration mode, its possible to access some utility allowing to:
As an alternative, it can be activated by choosing GENERAL SETTINGS from the toolbar, then

Once the debug mode is activated, the following window will be shown. It displays the real-time byte
flow between your PC and the ION-B system.

Device Types File: contains the list of all the devices supported by the LMT Software, with
relevant class, type and version codes.

Write Busmap file: allows you to save the BUS_MAP.CFG file containing the latest
configuration of the system (see Quick Configuration, step 2)
Export CSV file: allows you to export a .csv file containing a full list of the devices actually
discovered in the system. A semicolon (;) will be used to separate each field from the
following ones.
