Practicum Observation #6Lesson Plan
Location: Stone Spring Elementary School
Grade Level: 4th grade
Block period: 8:45-9:45
Teacher observed: Niki Miragliotta
This lesson was co-taught with Ms. Grace Dingus
I can Statements:
- I can echo and decipher rhythms by using rhythm syllables and
clapping
- I can memorize a 4-beat pattern while watching a different pattern
- I can quickly memorize rhythms and pass them on to my friends
Procedures:
- Students will echo rhythm syllables provided by teacher
- Teachers will demonstrate the game of 4 behind:
o One person performs a 4-beat rhythm
o Other people perform the pattern 4 beats behind the first person
o While others are performing first pattern, the first person is
performing the next pattern for the others to perform
- Students will play the game, watching the teacher(s) for the patterns
- Students will be given the opportunity to lead the game by making up
their own patterns
- Teachers will demonstrate a new game:
o One person passes a rhythm to their left
o Person who received the rhythm must pass the rhythm on in
time and immediately turn back
o First person now passes new rhythm
o This cycle continues all around the circle
- Students will participate in the new game, keeping track of the
rhythms and staying with the steady beat
Assessment:
- I will listen for the accuracy of the rhythms that the students echo back
- I will watch students during 4 behind and assess their accuracy of
motions and steadiness of tempo
- I will keep track of how efficiently and accurately the rhythms are
passed around the circle
