ANTIMONY TRICHLORIDE
CAS No. [10025919]
The major application for Antimony Trichloride is as the feed material for catalyzing the
formation of carbon chlorofluorides such as Freon and Geon. Typically the Antimony
Trichloride is chlorinated insitu to form the pentachloride which is the active catalyst.
A second application is as a catalyst for the bromination of phenyl rings to form specialty flame
retardants showing greater process and heat stability than products such as Decabromodiphenyl
Oxide.
Antimony Trichloride also finds use as an antiquing agent on bronze and brass to give controlled
blackening of the substrate materials.
Additionally, it is used as an intermediate reactant in several organo-antimony applications and to
obtain high grade Antimony organics.
Our special method of direct chlorination of Antimony metal provides for very low levels of
impurities and excellent control of levels of other valences of Antimony. This is accomplished at a
relatively low cost, compared to the traditional method of acidifying Antimony Trioxide..
