TMS
ANTIMONY TRIOXIDE
CAS No. [1309644]

Antimony trioxide is firmly established as a flame-retardant in polymers, paints, and textiles. The
standard grades of TMS are available in dry, wetted and pelletized forms, formulated for your
special requirements. TMS is processed to ensure that the level of colored and conducting
particles is minimal and well below the industry standard for antimony trioxide. This is also
reflected in the typical low level of total iron in TMS (soluble and insoluble).

TMS is as a flame-retardant, when used in conjunction with a source of halogen. In rigid and
plasticized PVC Compounds, the addition of controlled amounts of TMS will confer excellent
flame retardant properties. In other plastics, paints, paper and textiles that do not contain halogen,
a suitable chlorinated or brominated compound must be added with the TMS in order to obtain the
required flame retardant properties. TMS grade is suitable for most flame-retardant applications
where high tinting strength is acceptable. For colored compositions see Trutint data sheet. TMS
does not interfere with the heat stability of polymers and only had minimal effect on the physical
properties of the end product. All grades of TMS disperse easily in all types of blending
equipment. Other applications for TMS include its use as a fining agent for glass, as an opacifier
and corrosion inhibitor for ceramics and as a chemical intermediate.
