D.C. Counter
DBC-6, DBC-9, DBC-8E
1 Check electrical specifications and plug into a properly
grounded outlet for DBC-8E. (DBC-6 & DBC-9 are
mechanically operated, main power is not required)

Features Indication: DBC-8E

2 The D.C. Laboratory counter has been designed for simple

operation. Before each use, be sure that all the units are
set at zero. To reset the units, press the CLEAR key, or
turn the reset knob, all unit will then register ZERO.

CLEAR: Press this key, all units then register zero.

LOCK: Press this key to stop all counting;
one more press to the normal operation.
% : Press this key, percentage of each unit can be read
directly from each window.
DECREASE: Press this key, each stroke will decrease 1 number
both in Totalizer and the corresponding unit.

3 When counting, press down only one key at a time.

Be sure to press all the way down like typewriter and to
release the key completely.

NOTE:
After functioning LOCK, % or DECREASE, one more press of
this Key will function again to the normal operation.

4 When making a differential white cell count, press the

key, under the corresponding illustration, representing
the cell type observed in the microscope. When the
Totalizer reaches 100 and the sound buzzes, the number
shown in each window is a fraction of 100 and therefore
equals the percentage of that type cell in the sample of
blood which has been counted.
5 Each stroke registers both in unit corresponding to its
pressed key and in the Totalizer. The Totalizer is the unit
on the extreme up. It records the total number of strokes
made on all keys. When the Totalizer records 200, 300
etc., a long sound buzzes, while each stroke comes with
a short sound.

6 For a more accurate count, continue until the Totalizer
reaches 200 and then divide the figure shown in each window by 2 to
get the percentage of that type cell. This process can be extended to 300,
400 etc. for any degree of accuracy desired.
7 To count the number of cells in each square of a chamber, use a
separate key for each square. The totalizer will then record the total
number of cells counted in all the squares. Divide this total figure by the
number of squares to get the average count per square.
8 DBC-8E functions %, when the Totalizer does not record 100, 200, 300
etc., just press button %, the percentage of each unit can be read
directly from the window.
9 With a little practice the instrument can be operated by touch, like a
typewriter, and the operator will not have to remove his or her eyes from
the microscope. This permits undivided attention to be given to the
microscopic field.

2 Always check and make sure that the accumulated total number of each individual pressed key must
be equal to the number of Totalizer. If not, it indicates the damage of parts of spring or gear on DBC-6,
DBC-9. Please follow the troubleshooting procedure below for DBC-6 / DBC-9:
- Remove the release knobs (red color) by turning the knobs outward.
- Open the exterior case to find the defective parts.
- Replace the new parts subsequently.

3 When the LED digital on DBC-8E becomes twinkled or unclear indicates the problem of electronic
parts or disengaged linkage. The corrective action can be done as below:
- Remove the exterior case by loosening the screws on side of the case.
- Check the assembly and circuit board to find the real cause.
- Replace the new parts subsequently.
