Convert volume into dm3 which is the same as 1 litre, 1000cm3 and 1000ml

E.g. 300ml = 0.3dm3

Convert concentration into molar (M) which is the same as mol dm -3 (mol per
dm3)

E.g. 1M concentration = 1mol dm-3 concentration as the units are

equivalent.

Formulas:

number of moles ( mol )=concentration ( Molar , M ) volume ( dm 3litre)

Beer lambert law : A=cl

Where A = measured absorbance

= molar absorptivity

C = concentration of solution (mol dm3)

L = length of solution the light passes through (cm)

Prefixes:
micro () = 1x10-6 E.g. 1M concentration = 1x10-6M concentration
milli (m) = 1x10-3
centi (c) = 1x10-2

1dm3 = 1000ml
1/1000dm3 = 1ml

Calculating volumes of stock solutions:

C1 x V2 = C2 x V2
Where: C1 = initial concentration, or concentration of stock solution;
V1 = initial volume, or amount of stock solution needed

C2 = final concentration, or concentration of desired solution;

V2 = final volume, or volume of desired solution
