Dear Review Board Members

My name is Taveion Morris and the topic i chose was The Negative Effects Of Child
Imprisonment. If a child is subject to adult conditions then ultimately it could lead the
child to be subject to more prison time or take the wrong steps throughout life.
While doing my research i learned the many negative effects of child imprisonment
which include abuse, mental stability, behavior issues, lack of understanding, and more.
These issues are becoming common more and more everyday due to the lack of
understanding by many juveniles, and mass exposure to new things(technology,
environment, etc.). Throughout my research i read many articles and watched a few
selected videos. Within these articles and videos i learned things such as how a child
feels in these situations, what do they expect to learn from the situation and how it
affects their lives. These issues put children at a higher risk at becoming subject to
prison time throughout life. In conclusion to my research i got a deeper perspective on
the negative effects prison time has on a childs life.
For my product i created ISS(in school suspension)worksheets because i believe school
could give students a chance to avoid doing things that could lead them to prison On my
worksheets i asked student things like do you believe Garinger provide you with a way
to reach your long-term/short-term goals?, where do you expect to be in 3 years?, and
what could you have done to avoid being in ISS? I decided to focus on the question do
you believe Garinger provide you with a way to reach your long-term/short-term goals?,
many students responded no and believed that Garinger could provide a base for them
to have more activities in and out of school, and have more consideration for the
opinions of the students. The other students who responded yes believed Garinger
does provide them with a way to succeed on more and the teachers give fair chances to
be the best individual as possible. In conclusion to my SLE I wanted students to think
about how they could avoid doing things that could lead them into trouble, and have
them think about long term decisions in order to think about where they could be outside
of a detention/ prison setting.

The main thing I learned from my project is how much a childs life could be altered long
term for issues that they rarely understand. I believe that there should be a way to deal
with children who commit such violent crimes on a level that they are on mentally stable
for. I think children should remain in juvenile institutions but be dealt with on a more
intense level than those whose crimes are not as serious. In conclusion i believe this
project made me reflect more on myself and the situations that children who are
imprisoned are in.
