ECC BENEFICIARY TURNED SELF-MADE ENTREPRENEUR

Jebson Igloria, a Kagabay Program beneficiary of ECC, is one of the successful

PWRD in Region10 who made use of ECCs program to change his life.
Igloria is an employee of UNIDEL Trucking Services in Tagoloan, Misamis Oriental.
For four years, he was a truck driver wherein he delivers goods from their company to their
clients area. But his delivery on June 27, 2014 changed his life completely.
While going back to the company from his delivery in Butuan City, he met an accident
due to malfunction of the truck. The accident resulted to a major injury wherein his left leg is
fractured and his right leg needs to be amputated. At that time, Igloria was devastated on
how he can go back to work on his current condition as partially disabled.
The odds is unfortunate to Igloria. He wasnt able to go back to work. His salary for 3
months was placed on hold by his employer. He had nothing to buy for basic needs
considering he has 2 children and his wife is currently pregnant.
Igloria resorted to visit the DOLE Office for some advice. His case was referred for
SEnA (Single Entry Approach). At the same time, the DOLE in-charge referred him to ECC
Region10 Office.
ECC assisted him to process and file his EC Claims. The claim took a while since his
SSS records needed to change from voluntary member to employed member.
His EC Claim was approved and is good for 48 months. He received an initial amount
of P 16,500.00 for his EC Disability and the rest will be given as monthly pension. At the

same time, he availed the Physical Restoration and Livelihood Training under the Kagabay
Program of ECC.
While waiting for the training on his chosen livelihood, he underwent physical therapy
in Northern Mindanao Medical Center in Cagayan de Oro good for 20 sessions. The said
therapy is already for free due to the partnership between ECC and the hospital in terms of
rehabilitation.
Also, he is one of the Kagabay beneficiaries who preferred Hog Raising as his
livelihood. On October 2015, he joined the free orientation on Entrepreneurship
Development and Health Issues and Diseases in Swine Raising conducted by Department of
Trade & Industry Negosyo Center and Pure Mig-Els Distribution Systems Inc, respectively.
Then, he underwent a seminar-workshop on Swine Production conducted by Xavier
University Manresa Farm. The said training costs P 1,850.00. After the training, he
received a starter kit for his chosen livelihood. 2 piglets worth P 3,500 each and 2 sack of
feeds with a total worth of P 2,515.00
Being thankful for ECCs help, he managed properly his home business. As of 2016,
he was able to sell 11 piglets, including the ones given as starter kit, and is currently raising
7 piglets. His income was used for their basic needs and for his new ventured business,
Food Cart.
Igloria is now selling Fried Chicken in front of the public market. He sells P25 each
and his estimated income per month on the food cart business alone is P12,000.00. Since
their daily expenses can suffice the income on both his hog raising and food cart business,
he will just use or withdraw his EC monthly pension for emergency purposes only.
Igloria is one of the Kagabay beneficiaries who managed properly and maintained
what the government has given him. He is just not satisfied in his pension, thus he venture
into something more. He is showing that disability is not a reason for a person to fail.

Instead, with dedication and perseverance, a PWRD can also be an entrepreneur and
someday a future employer.
And now, December 13, 2016, Igloria was able to receive his below knee prosthesis
from Orthopaedie Frey Far East courtesy of ECC. He is very thankful because he knows
how expensive it is and he will be able to change from his old prosthesis which is heavier
than the new one.
I am very thankful with ECC. They are ready to serve and assist people like me who
is considered a Person with Work-Related Disability. They are their when Im in a tough
situation. Through their programs, I was able to support myself and my family. Thank you so
much to the people in ECC... Igloria said.
The Kagabay program is a special economic assistance program of ECC which
facilitates integration of ODWs into the economic mainstream through physical restoration,
training for re-employment or self-entrepreneurship.

happy that his old leg prosthesis will be changed into a new and better one.
