Parking problem
Westminster Park Residents’ Association (WPRA) chairman Allan Stobie has urged
motorists on the estate not to park on the pavement.
He told the WPRA annual meeting: “I have noticed that a lot of cars are being parked
partially on the pavement. This is not a recommended practice because, firstly, the
construction of footpaths is to a much lower specification than roadways and eventually
the surface will break up or subside. Secondly, it often makes it difficult for mums with
pushchairs or disabled people to get past the obstruction without diverting into the road,
which is obviously very dangerous. Please think before parking.”

Play date
Play Day 2010 is to be held in Westminster Park on Tuesday 10th August. Organised
by CWAC Council, there will be a climbing wall, water chute and many other pieces of
equipment. Watch out for posters in your school.

Glan Aber Tennis Club

The Club was founded in 1908 and is now located in Westminster Park. There are four
all-weather courts, which have been refurbished in the last two years and one mini tennis
court. There is a private clubhouse with changing facilities.
There are adult club nights on Tuesday from 6.30 pm and less experienced adults meet
on Thursday. Tuesday mornings are also proving popular. There are tournaments for
juniors and occasional adult social events such as ‘Tennis and a Takeaway’. The Club
runs men’s, ladies and mixed teams.
For further information, please contact Sue Britton on 01244 677936.

Westminster Park Gardening Club

THE first two meetings have been well attended and two more events are planned this
year. The next is an evening guided tour of Ness Gardens on Thursday 15th July, 6.30pm,
with Andy Lambie who lectures in Horticulture at Ness.
For info email the chairman Mike Pollard at mkpll@aol.com or ring 675222.
On 29th September there will be a meeting in the community centre at 7.45pm for an 8pm
start with a fruit and vegetable swap planned.

Dropping off is ‘disaster waiting to happen’

THE subject of parents dropping off children outside Belgrave School was
discussed at the recent Westminster Park Residents’ Association meeting.
The WPRA has written to the headmistress about the problem of parents letting
children out onto the road instead of the pavement.
Chairman Alllan Stobie said: “It is considered that with so many cars dropping off
that this is a disaster waiting to happen. It is in the interest of the children’s health
that they should walk, if at all possible, or if not please think before opening the car
door.”

I like to reminisce with people I don’t know.

Q. Help! I have very puffy skin below my eyes. What can I do to

reduce the puffiness?
A. This question is asked so frequently that I have decided to give an
extended answer to your question.
The solution to puffy eyes will depend very much on the cause of the
puffiness. If you have always had puffy eyes, this may indicate that you
are genetically predisposed to having fatty deposits in this area; or, the
puffiness could be a result of ageing when the fat pads beneath the skin
start to shift altering the eye contour. In both of these instances there is
really is no cure other than with surgery.
However, if your eyes aren’t usually puffy and you awake to find your
under eye area is swollen, this type of puffiness is related
to inflammation. Firstly, you need to apply something to
reduce the swelling. Cold compresses are a good, quick and
inexpensive solution because cold causes swollen skin to
contract. Soak cotton wool pads or a piece of clean cloth
in cold (not icy cold) water, or apply a gel-filled eye mask
from the refrigerator.
Cold cucumber slices are also helpful, but they work
because they are cool, not because they have any magical
ingredient. You can also apply used, cooled tea bags, Angela Bartlett is a beauty and

Capital House to be a hotel?

THE Western Command offices could be converted into a hotel or flats, if developers have
their way.
Capital House, in Queen’s Park, has been vacated after the Lloyds Banking Group put it
up for sale amid big cutbacks across the company nationwide.
The 5.8 acre site is being marketed as a ‘prime development opportunity – site suitable
for residential/hotel development (subject to planning)’.”
John Murray from the website Handbridge.com says people wouldn’t be too upset to see
a luxury hotel but they would probably prefer it to be converted into flats.
