Entering a college influences individuals skills and traits

Most students study hard and perform well in high school for having
more choices to get the high-level universities offer. Why? Because
entering a college is an important turning point in peoples life. Entering a
college will influence students on individuals skills and traits, even the job
and future life. They will gain skills of different areas and the change of
personality. So how and why can college own this powerful ability? There
are three parts: study environment, friends circle, studying or teaching
resources.
First reason for it is environment. Classroom environment is important
for students. Hannah(2013) ever said that this place is where they will
learn the various skills deemed necessary and proper for them to achieve
success in the global society. The class culture and rules let students
study about unity and cohesion. Good academic environment creates
students study condition. If the college experience has a positive influence
on the personal and academic growth of a student, then the student is
more integrated into the academic and social life. (Terenzini, etc 1984,
page625). In college, students can gain more basic knowledge and
professors instruction which they cant get from outside. Life environment
sometimes will affect or change students emotion and feelings. College
life is much safer and easier than society life. Therefore it is better for
students mental growth.
Second reason is friends circle. A research shows that the peer group

also influences development of students socializing skills ( Barbour,

etc,2010). College will supply various team work or activities. For
example, in the composition class, professor will ask students to have the
peer review. Because of that, we can appreciate the good ideas and points
from others and understand each other more. In college we will make
friends with different areas. Some capable friends can share successful
experience, help students improve their individuals skills and give some
useful ideas. So, what kind of person they meet is very vital. There is an
old Chinese saying that he that lies down with dogs must rise up with flea.
The last reason is that studying or teaching resources gives them
different direction about future. College owns the integrated and whole
education systems and facilities. Students will learn to how to make the
plan and timetable. Strang (2015) said that college requires more selfmotivation

and

self-discipline

and

many

students

have

more

responsibilities to balance and manage. Professors play an essential role

in students life. Teacher controls attitude, behavior and misbehavior of
students in different ways through admires (Younis, etc,2015). Their
teaching style affects students learning attitude and methods. Sometime
students will imitate or learn from the professors. Another point is college
can supply many types of learning and working opportunities. So the
students have the working experience, meanwhile, they get a suitable
transition to society.
To summarize, entering a college is better for students development.

College has good environment, large interpersonal circle and teaching

resource. It is an important but not necessary part in peoples life. Just
taking advantage of college resources can practice their own abilities.
Enjoy the college life and improve themselves!
