I. Introduction:
In every institution, big or small, there are many crisises being met. There crisises can
lead to the destruction of the organization if not properly be addressed. These can come from the
school system, employees, administrators and environment.
As a school head, heading a small school, I had lots of exposures to problems related to
the operation of the school, related to the operation of the school, related to teachers functions,
students _______ natures, top management and DepEd as a whole and other factors like the
community and stakeholders.
The above-stated sources of challenges cannot be avoided if you are the manager/leader
of an institution. There is no way to go away if not to face them one by one with all your best
skills, knowledge and charisma in facing and solving issues that would arise. Just have the
confidence and trust in yourself for you wont do it alone. Just be guided with DepEd policies
and orders, you wont be lost. Put in mind that you as a manager is there to oversee the
organization with policies as your weapons. No fear and no doubts!
In our institution, there are many challenges we meet everyday but these are being solved
in our own ways. As a school head, it is easy to manage students than teachers, we cannot deny
the fact that there are rocks in a group who are sometimes make the school fall. But as a manager
we should not focus on the rocks because there are those teachers who still care, and who are
committed. I had just set policies (school based) to simple things and DepEd policies govern
those that are grave in nature.
The function which is organized in our organization is the staffing. All teachers are
teaching their expertise and we strictly follow our organizational structure even we are just
eighteen (18) in our organization.
The function which is marginalized in is on the trainings of teachers in the K-12. Since
the school in a training ground for newly hired teachers, we do not adapt programs permanently
due to transfers of teachers. They accept items but will transfer after two to three years. So, the
tendency is that, we hire inexperienced and untrained teachers.
II. Analysis:
1. In our school, there was an issue on AWOL. A certain teacher did not report to school for
six (6) months after the untimely death of her husband. The issue was, the school head
did not report her absences for the duration of six (6) months and what was worst was
that she took the salary of the teacher (check before). When the teacher reported, there
was an investigation but the problem was that the teacher did not report the school head

because of fear that he will be removed from the service. So, the decision made was the
teacher did not receive her salary for six (6) months after she reported to school. it ended
here because the teacher admitted that she signed the payroll and received her salary
when she was on AWOL.
2. Gunshot incident. One (1) teacher was shot at his right thigh by three unidentified armed
me. The teacher was suspected to have had a relationship to one of the female students. In
this case, the teacher was transferred to another school leaving his item.
3. Issue on hiring of teachers
Some newly hired teachers were asked to pay or give one to two months salary to
the Administrative Officers who helped them in applying. After they (teachers) had given
the amount, they made a letter addressed to the Schools Division Superintendent and
Civil Service that said administrative officer took their one month, two months salaries.
There was a thorough investigation and it was found out that the Administrative
Officer was guilty. She was then suspended for six (6) months another investigation and
hearing was made. Again she was guilty and now she was suspended again for one (1)
year. I dont know what will be the next thing to be done if she will be terminated or not.
We are waiting for her to report to our office. The issue on her suspension was not known
to us to the field.

10 Teaching Practices for the 21st Century Teacher

I embraced the teaching profession since 1996 and these years I experienced a lot of
challenges in teaching diverse learners with diverse cultures. When I was young, and was so
strict and objective. so those young years of mind, I observed that students follow or obedient
because they were afraid of my set rules as a classroom teacher. I got their attention because I
imposed corporal punishment without listening to their voice.
But as years passed by an through trainings, formal schooling and readings I learned that
teaching in the stricktiest sense is more than what I was doing. I realized that teaching is more
enjoyable if you learn to understand your learners, their interest and their uniqueness as
individuals. We should know why are our learners misbehave? Why they set absent? Why they
get low grades and why they need to be reached out?
Through trainings, I learned and realized that I exist as a teacher because of the learners
so I have to know and love my learners. I should bear in mind one writer said If a child cannot
learn the way you teach, then teach the child way he/she can learn.
So we have to employ these 21st century skills as a teacher with the 21st teaching practices
so that these learners can best learn the way we teach them. We are responsible in making these
learners globally competitive or holistically developed by planning implementing program
needed to raise their performances. But in order to raise their performances, we need to apply
these teaching practices being a 21st teacher as follows:
1. Maintain good communication skills;
2. Getting students engaged;
3. Use humor;
4. Act dont react;
5. Be clear and precise in your instructions;
6. Give room to individualized learning;
7. Positive feedback;
8. Involve students in decision making;
9. Use peer learning; and
10. Love your subject/job.
In the k-12, consider the diverse learners and diverse curricula and aligned by standards.
