A really helpful day, with a lot of

information. The knowledge I have

gained complements previous workshop
days I have been involved in. I have a
much better understanding of where my
future might lie and I would like to thank
all of the employers who took the time to
speak with us all.

A message from the CEO

Welcome reader to EBP Kents Annual Activity Review
Times of change and development are always the most rewarding and fortunately for Education Business
Partnership Kent working with schools and employers, this is our one constant state ! Our partner schools continue
to push the edge, to test, trial and develop highly innovative work for the young people of Kent. Our employer
partners both old and new give the priceless, this year a total of 79,964 hrs of their expert time. This gift inspires
and empowers young people to move forward and progress with knowledge and confidence, into the world of work.
Feedback from this work tells us how much Employers contributions are valued by young people and Teaching
teams. Employers value well prepared, high quality engagement and always deliver more than the event itself, with
follow up assemblies, site visits, specialist talks to groups of students.
Part of this exciting year is the growth and development of the National Careers Enterprise Company. From our
view of the world, this is the strongest promotion of Education Business Link work and its central role in the
development of young people into effective economic citizens. Evolving forward this greatly enhances the very
essence of all that is Education Business Partnership Kent. The new report Getting Ready for Work published by
Ofsted November 2016 affirms the powerful impact of an integrated strategy of engagement across all Key Stages.
A particular vote of thanks to the Board of Trustees whose unfaltering support, professional guidance and genuine
belief in the work of the Charity, has formed the bed rock of our sustainability.
Coupled with the excitement of change comes the formidable challenges. These are and will be addressed by the
most dedicated hard working team of professionals, the EBP Team, whose skills and experience bring creative vision
and detailed delivery supporting teaching teams, Employers and young people across the County. Our sincere thanks
to each and every partner for your time, expertise, energy and commitment.

CEO EBPKent

Facilitating the opportunities to collaborate

with schools effectively and with depth can be
very challenging, particularly given the diverse
needs of a fast-paced global
company. Working in partnership with EBP
Kent, we can contribute positively to the
communities in which we operate by using our
time for the benefit of young
people. Together, with our stakeholders we
are bringing technology to life.

CAREERS GUIDANCE CASE STUDY

Careers Interviews: Approximately 15-20% of students consider that they do
not have a clear vocational aim. A high percentage of students do not know
or understand the different options and pathways available to them.
Alice came with very few ideas about what she would like to do. Her parents
wanted her to study for a profession of some kind. Her main interest was a job in
the care sector and she wanted to explore the possibility of an apprenticeship.
Her priority was a job involving variety and travelling around during her working
day. We talked about the role of the Occupational Therapist listed in the EBP
Kent Career Cards, a job she did not know existed. It seemed to fit well with her
criteria. We investigated different pathways including level 2 & 3 apprenticeships
within the NHS and Care Sector. We also looked carefully at entry requirements
for Universities; her study options including college courses and Sixth Form offers
the following year, and possibly stretch for a higher qualification than she was
initially considering. This was a commitment she was prepared to make.
Alice would go on to be supported over the course of the academic year via the
use of carefully designed lessons, Work Experience and Volunteering (mapped
against the Gatsby Benchmarks and Ofsted requirements). She was made aware
of her skills, especially those pertaining to Employability, in order to better
prepare her for work.

the advantages of attaining certain levels of literacy and
numeracy, but also provide a real world experience covering
all aspects of what makes an employee an asset. Over 20
separate organisations and companies were involved.

Make it Work
Depth of experience of work unattainable on work placement
A 2 day project, with Key Stage 4 students allocated to employers, working on an
industry-specific challenge and presenting back their findings at the end of the
programme. 170 students were involved overall along with over 40 business
volunteers. Each employer set complex group challenges addressed by teams of
students who then reported back via a variety of mediums.
