MENG 4555 Applied Vibration Measurement, Analysis, and Control
Fall 2016
Project: Vehicle Suspension
Assigned 17/11/2016, Due 15/12/2016

The purpose of this project is to study the dynamics of vehicles under different road conditions and vehicle
speeds. The aim is to investigate how vehicles respond and how the design parameters influence the
behavior.

Requirements
1. Obtain realistic data about a vehicle and its suspension.
2. Develop a dynamic model of the vehicle showing only one-half of it, as shown above. This can
either be derived using equations of motion, or by using a software of your choice.
3. Investigate how the vehicle behaves under some defined road irregularities of your choice (ex:
bump, pot hole, step, sine wave, etc.) and at different vehicle speeds of your choice.
4. Discuss your results.
Notes
Your technical report should include the following sections:
1. Cover page (title, names)
2. Abstract (summary, approach and results)
3. Background on vehicle dynamics
4. Model (assumptions, parameters, etc.)
5. Results (tables, graphs) and their interpretation
6. Conclusions
