The
O-Bahn
City Access Project

South Australian Strategic Plan

Target: 63.
Use of public transport
Increase the use of public
transport to 10% of metropolitan
weekday passenger vehicle
kilometres travelled by 2018.

The O-Bahn City Access Project

Traffic Congestion on the Inner Ring Route causes increased travel times
and reliability problems for O-Bahn bus services:

25% of travel time is made up of delays at intersections

Bus vehicle speeds are as low as 8km/hr on North Terrace and as low as
20km/hr on Hackney Road

It takes almost twice as long to travel 1.45 km from Hackney Rd to Grenfell

St as the initial 12km of the O-Bahn trip on the guided busway from TTP to
Gilberton.

The O-Bahn City Access Project

Primary Project Objectives

Primary Objective:
To improve travel times and reliability, and reduce on-road delays for users of the OBahn service between the end of the busway at Gilberton and Grenfell Street over the
next 30 years.
Other Objectives:

Improve safety and travel time, and reduce congestion for traffic on the Inner Ring
Route;

Allow for potential long term transport initiatives;

Minimise impacts to the travelling public, business operations and the wider
community during construction;

Minimise impacts upon the environment and heritage, including the Park Lands; and

Complete the project within the $160 million allocated budget by the second half of
2017.
